A couple years back, my grandmother removed her old, broken chairs from her house. A junk collector came by to pick the chairs up and my little brother looked in the back of the junk collecter's truck and found a working SEGA Genesis, some old games including the original Sonic the Hedgehog, The Adventures of Batman and Robin, Vectorman, and Buster Bunny's Treasure Hunt, and two working controllers.
Sonic the Hedgehog, the original 1991 game that launched Sonic into the Halls of Video Game Gods, is a 2D platformer. The game is tough with numerous traps and enemies. I can not get up to Robotnik in Marble Zone. Even with the first two Chaos Emeralds.
The Adventures of Batman and Robin is a side scrolling beat-em-up. Mr. Freeze has freed the Joker, Two-Face and the Mad Hatter in an attempt to plunge Gotham City in an eternal winter. There is little difference between Batman and Robin, so picking one or the other is not a big issue. Powerups appear as circles with the Batman logo and change colors to represent different weapons, bombs kill everything on the screen, and hearts heal your character. The weapons are shuriken, bolos, and batarangs. Shuriken go through enemies, bolos deal more damage, and batarangs chrage faster. With each weapon powerup gained, the weapons charge up to full power faster and fly at different angles. The super powered team also have a flying kick for hard to reach enemies. Controls are simple: (A) and (C) attack and (B) jumps. This game is very hard as I have trouble getting up to the first boss.
Vectorman is a 2D platformer. The story goes that in the future the Earth is covered in trash and humanity leaves to escape it all. Before humanity shoots towards the stars, they leave a group of robots called "orb bots" to clean the planet to make it habitable again. The leader of the orb bots, Raster, has a nuclear missile fused to his head during a tune-up, and Warhead, the main villian, is born. Your character is Vectorman and is out to stop Warhead's evil plans. The controls are simple, (A) and (B) fire Vertorman's blaster and (C) jumps. Tough but loads of fun.
Buster Bunny, if you do not remember, is one of the main characters from the Loony Tunes spinoff, Tiny Toons. You control Buster as he searches for Montana Max and treasure. Buster meets up with various characters from the show that will lend him a hand in traversing the world in this 2D adventure - platformer. The game is mix between Sonic and Mario with no bottomless pits, multiple ways to deal with enemies, and loads of collectibles. They include carrots, hearts, extra hearts, and much more. One unique feature is that Buster can travel to Wacky Land; the home of Dodo, a thing that would make Dali jealous; that acts as a bonus level. Controls are simple, (A) calls on a helper that clears the screen of enemies; (B) causes Buster to slide if he gained enough speed; and (C) jumps. Areas are varied and the music sounds like it was taken from the show. Fun and and sort of easy.
