Hello.
I know routines are comfortable, Truly i do.
However thinks like The Mario franchises, Metal gear, Mega manand Zelda need to go.
I'm in my mid-20's and let's be honest, These franchises are as old as i am, With very little changes or "Imaginative" differences.
Growing up under the Nes era was very different from today, A million publishers came and went, Each having their own unique offerings.
These days we have styles that pretty much describe what the game is with very little surprises or plot twists.
Gameplay has become standardized.
Story elements are simpler sometimes a whole story can be boiled down to three sentences.
I hate to sound like an old timer crying foul for a by gone age,But i see very little innovation these days.

TLDR: Please think up new game ideas. Less "Sorry mario, Peach s in another castle"

(Note Motion control is not so new, Remember virtual boy?)

1. I don't mind franchises. All too often people make the mistake of thinking that just because the name on the box is the same, the game must be a clone of a past iteration. Wrong! You seriously think Twilight Princess was similar to Wind Waker? That Mario Galaxy was similar to Sunshine? If the games are good, who cares?

2. I have no idea why you think having loads of different publishers and devs making games is somehow a good thing, especially since most of them were crap.

3. Plots like "Are you a bad enough dude to save the president?" are sorely missed, aren't they?

4. There's more innovation in the industry now than ever, the market has always been full of shit games. These then get forgotten about as the truly good games shine through in peoples' memories.

5. The VB was a failed experiment with 3D, nothing like what companies are attempting now.

Franchise makes money. So long as that is true, almost no business will give up the opportunity to make more profit off the same game idea.

Yeah, I have a feeling valve will milk Left 4 Dead as long as people love to kill zombies.

I wish you would have expounded on your complaints to give a clearer idea of what you don't like. I do find it odd that you did not mention any sports titles on the list, if any genre could do with some serious innovation between titles it would be Madden or NHL. (Personally I check them out every 3 or so years)

As far as innovative game play I would look towards Mario Galaxy or Mirrors Edge. How are those standardized?

Story and plot twists are something that not only games struggle with but also books and movies. Some have it others don't, it is the nature of creative media. I saw Dead Space's plot twist(s) from miles away but did not see Bioshocks'.

I agree wholeheartedly that Zelda could use a serious shake up, as much as I enjoyed Twilight Princess it could not shake the Ocarina of Time feel.

Well, motion control items like the Visual Boy and the Power Glove were failed experiments, as Guerilla Clock said. As for franchises,

this basically sums it up.

Virtual Boy wasn't motion control. Power Glove was, though... but it wasn't very good.

What's wrong with franchises? What do you mean by very little difference? If you're talking about how the games play, then you're dumb. If a company changed a game's control after however many years it's been the same, people aren't gonna be very happy about it.

Franchises are good, it creates a long story that you can follow. And I gotta disagree with your oppinion on Metal Gear. I'm not a fanboy (stands in front of avatar), but if you look at Metal Gear on the MSX compared to today's offerings I think you'll find it's vastly different. Okay, the new stuff that's coming out isn't much different from the last, but I'm not one to judge a game before I've played it.

But franchises do create fanboys and can often jump the shark (I'm aware that Metal Gear has done this multiple times).

I think you're thinking of the Power Glove. The VB was the goggle-esque type contraption that made people go blind.
