I have my prefrence (PC) but what I want to know, not that I'm saying anyone here can answer this is question of mine is...

Whenever I'm doing art on my PC I get Mac users (people I don't know) have to voice their opinion with their preppy Mac friends and call me an idiot for working with art on a PC? I'm using photoshop there's no difference between photoshop on a mac and a PC except shortcuts. I don't care what they use so why do they care what I use?
Look, there's tossers in every 'community'? generally, it's the people that think they're part of a community just for having purchased a PC or a Mac.
I understand that, but I've never had a person who owns a Mac not give me a 20 page dissertation on why I'm incorrect in assuming that a PC is a good choice at all. Even my uncles give me these lovely speeches at family parties and it's honestly not something I care to hear because it's all[\i] wrong.

The same reason you use a PC.

I use both actually. Mac for editing films and writing stuff, making music and such. PC for the video games.... and thats it actually.
pretty much this at first it was PC for both but when I discovered how good mac was for video editing and such I was converted for that but since it is crap not suitable for games I still use a PC

Irony++.

The right tool for the right job. The Mac is not for everyone (and frankly I want to keep it out of everyone's hands - being the elitist bastard that I am), nor should it be pushed on everyone.

You make sure you tell your uncles that a qualified technician (Apple Certified Technical Coordinator) told them they're flaming morons for trying to push their shit, and should be thrown off a cliff.

I'm using and have always used a PC, but if I was going to get a laptop, I'd get a Mac.

They just look so pretty.

To me all the macs look the same, they just repeat the same matte white, which IMO is boring.
I have used Macs by the way and while I may at times seem biased towards Apple (I try not to be) I am just tired of all their biased advertising, which is generally riddled with lies...
I am not all for Microsoft either as they can be stupid about things too, but at least they don't lie.

As for the computer itself, all I see is a PC with a slightly different operating system (which restricts the use of games) that costs more... that all look the same... I just don't get how they can say it is the "fun" computer when there are no games for the thing. On the topic of viruses, I have never had one, although anyone who has anti-virus and has had a virus has done some seriously irresponsible downloading and probably has never done a scan.

This is going to be a very hard to read piece of text I know but bear with me, Macs may be useful to those who do video and music editing but aside from that they don't do anything that much better.

All in all if you're willing to pay the extra cash for no games go ahead but IMO it just isn't worth it.

It's hard to fully explain: it's just smoother. Everything runs better, the experience is smoother, and each and every action just feels better. Actually, I think Penny Arcade said it best here: http://www.penny-arcade.com/2006/3/3/

My parents bought me mine, and got a mac because neither I nor they wanted to deal with viruses and such. Currentley I use it for web browsing, homework, and I run crossover games to play PWI.

I am a console gamer so video games on the computer aren't really my motivation for buying said computer.

Seriously the only video games I play on a Computer are WoW and upcoming Diablo 3 (both Mac compatible)

OT: I like Mac's because they are good for making music, writing, producing, watching videos, and (with Microsoft Office for mac) doing work.

EDIT: I don't trust a full Mac or PC household though, the best would be a PC desktop and a Mac laptop.

I use a Mac ,because I've had tons of trouble with my old windows PC.it was crashing every half hour(literary) and playing games on is was virtually impossible. I use Mac OS X leopard for work(photshop, open office,iMovie, etc.) and windows 7 as a second system for playing games.

I could be the cool guy and say that I did it on purpose and that I'm just totally fucking awesome, but you know how it goes, the one time you don't read your post before tossing it up haha.

I'm not saying that Macs are bad, I'm saying "Whatever you want to use, go right ahead and use" has always been my thing, but no offense to any Mac users, this is just my experience with people who use Macs, and perhaps love their Macs perhaps too much.

I'm ALWAYS attacked by Mac users. They ALWAYS have to point out their facts and why their superior but frankly they're misinformed and PC and Mac have big similarities and their only BIG difference is software libraries (and the ability to repair/modify your own system) and news flash, Photoshop is on both PC and Mac so the argument is irreverent

In my opinion, anyone who uses a mac for anything other than design work or multimedia creation has wasted their money and probably bought it so they could act all smug and brag to their friends that "I use a mac."

These people need to be beaten severely with a mini USB cable, then forced to justify in detail why they HAD to buy a mac, other than the fact that they're a douche with a huge ego.

Its kind of like when you see some jerk off riding a $4,000 carbon fibre, full suspension downhill racing bike on the fucking sidewalk. I mean sure if you can afford it that's great, but WHY?!? Other than to show off how much money they spent, and really, when are they EVER going to use it for its intended purpose?!? The $1200.00 downhill body armor and helmet just add to the whole doucheitude, kind of like people buying a new desk because "It matches my mac"

What can a mac do that a PC can't? Not very much, its just a more stable system.

Why the hell would anyone spend 3+ grand for a mac when all they're going to use it for is surfing the net, checking eMails and playing games? You can buy a PC and upgrade the living shit out of it for half that price! (That's right, because they're a douche and need to show off)

I use a mac for work, and a PC for play. The difference being that macs were designed to be powerful, dedicated graphics machines with little or no worries about viruses, etc. and despite what they advertise, they're really meant for professionals. Also, Adobe products run better on macs, because that's the platform they were originally intended for.

I use mac OS-X and have no intention of partitioning and installing windows. In fact as soon as I can I'm switching to google's OS because I sincerely HATE Microsoft products. I use Windows XP on my PC and it STILL is constantly downloading security updates, etc.

What a joke.

So to summarize, Mac users: Either professional designers or douchebags with more money than common sense, or someone who just plain likes macs for their superior graphics in watching movies and stuff, or had one bought for them and doesn't brag about it. (I know you're out there)

PC users: Pretty much everybody else.

Why do you use a Mac?

I've been a PC user and lover for many years now, and I've tried to use/get into Macs, and I just can't do it. With a Mac, I feel like I'm paying more just for the name and cause everything looks flashy. Which is fine, I'm just not into that.

So I wanna know, Mac users (and Mac users ONLY), why do you personally use a Mac?

I kindly request that all PC users keep from posting in this thread. However if you have used, are currently using/own a Mac, you can comment about your experience.

Also, please try to refrain from comparing "PC" or "Mac." I'm not trying to do a Vs. here, I just want opinions on what makes you use a Mac. If it's something that your Mac can do that a PC can't do, then feel free to comment on that, but please try not to harp on that fact.

I would also like to know what OS youre running on your system. Do you strictly run OS X, do you run OS X and Windows XP? Vista? 7? Please, share.

To restate myself, im not trying to start a Vs. war, I am just trying to get a better understanding of what Macs have out there to offer, maybe I didn't get the full usage out of a Mac when i tried it.
I use a mac because my parents bought me a macbook pro as a surprise to cheer me up after the school bully broke my arm.

There is nothing that a Mac can do that a PC (Macs ARE PC's) can't, and there's nothing that a PC can do that a Mac can't. Everything can be solved between the two with a little programming...or hacks, lol.
Finally someone else with a bit of sense. If I tried saying that to any of my Mac owning mates I'd get a twenty minute lecture of each of them...SEPERATELY about how the Mac is so much faster, easier, better in general etc. etc. blahblahfuckingblah.

Elitest wankers, pardon my Francaís

Whoa... Comparing a Macintosh computer to a Personal Computer?

What does that make a "Mac" then if it isn't a PC?

I am lost... Maybe it should be Mac vs Windows?

Yup... All of you should be using a Macintosh since you are all brainwashed and/or gullible enough to listen to the mainstream advertising.

That's a shitty way to get a new mac, but it sure beats the hell out of an ice cream cone, eh?

I use a Mac Because it's my father's computer and is what is available to me. However, the video editing software is extremely intuitive and easy to use.
I still wind up typing out all my essays on Gmail, though.

My current goal is getting myself a decent gaming PC, and then running Ubuntu for everything else.
Glefistus said:
Dear Mac Users: Please stop blanketing good computers under the name "PC" and thinking they are actually manufactured by Microsoft. The only thing Microsoft contributes is the OS, and most people are using Ubuntu for anything not gaming related nowadays anyway.
Dear Linux user: Please don't blanket us Mac users as stupid, many of us know what we are talking about. Also, please keep in mind that while Ubuntu is a solid OS, most of America/the world do not know how to work with it nor are they willing to learn. Windows is by far the most popular OS still.
If you wish to test this, walk down a street and ask everyone you meet what "Ubuntu" is.

Whoever says Mac has no viruses knows nothing.

The reason there are less, is because Mac users cant do a damn thing outside of photo shop and movie maker, and you aren't going to get a virus from them.

But, if you were to, say, download the same virus file from lime wire, you would get it.

I use a Mac because I'm an audio engineering student, and Macs simply run all of my audio programs far better than Windows, I use OSX Leopard, I didn't feel like paying to upgrade to Snow Leopard

But I do miss gaming, so much so that I installed Boot Camp with XP so I can play Steam games
