Well, I don't really use my computer for gaming, never have. So, it seemed like a better choice for me since it's good for making movies, music, etc. and for working with Photoshop. They're also nice and fast. Plus, with PCs, there's too many choices; with Macs, it's a simple: "Do you want the newest model or a used one?"

Ah... have a peek at the post I made before I quoted yours. I don't think the reasons justify making you use a Mac over a PC, but the misinformation you are thinking of is a little less than you appear to realise.

No, they don't. They haven't for a long, long time.
I have used Macs by the way and while I may at times seem biased towards Apple (I try not to be) I am just tired of all their biased advertising, which is generally riddled with lies...
It's in the spirit of jest, but a lot of people don't see that. Let's get this straight: THE ADVERTS ARE A JOKE, NOT A MORAL CRUSADE.
I am not all for Microsoft either as they can be stupid about things too, but at least they don't lie.
ALL companies lie. Besides, the "I'm a PC and I'm 6.5 years old" kid is totally bullshitting :p

As for the computer itself, all I see is a PC with a slightly different operating system (which restricts the use of games) that costs more... that all look the same... I just don't get how they can say it is the "fun" computer when there are no games for the thing. On the topic of viruses, I have never had one, although anyone who has anti-virus and has had a virus has done some seriously irresponsible downloading and probably has never done a scan.
You must remember, there are a lot of ... 'simple' people out there, and a lot of people with little-to-no experience with computers. Viruses happen a lot to these types.

This is going to be a very hard to read piece of text I know but bear with me, Macs may be useful to those who do video and music editing but aside from that they don't do anything that much better.

All in all if you're willing to pay the extra cash for no games go ahead but IMO it just isn't worth it.
Each to his own, but there are games on Mac (parallel technology means that everything on a PC can be played on a Mac, as well as Mac port games). That seems to be the one big point against them by PC users, and it is unfounded.

I'm trying to be nice, I don't want to just openly state my opinion because I'll make it sound like I'm stating it as a fact and that gets people mad. I honestly I don't like Macs, I had to use them in college for 6 months till I got a laptop to avoid them, I've had to do tech support for the users, I've worked on them for other projects. I don't like anything about them except perhaps their look and style, but then their commercials are obnoxious, their customers are bastards to me, their hardware is overpriced, their software library is laughable and 40% of their users emulate windows on them to run other software. And you have to have technicians fix them because Mac basically lock you out of them. They also spread lots of disinformation about PCs such as Vista has many problems, anyone care to do some research with me?

This was caused by Nvidia stating that their vid cards were vista ready but they weren't at all, the software was filled with bugs and they never updated them. So it looked like vista was to blame. A source: http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=405
I actually wanted to state this because I use vista and hear the same thing from everyone "you use vista!? It's horrible!" It's not, it's a step above Xp in many ways.

Look I still stand by "use what you want" because it avoids arguments and it's about personal preference and none of that interferes with my life so I don't care. I've done the research, I've used them, I've made art on them and they're not for me. I don't like the OS, and having someone rant about it to me isn't going to change my rather long experience using various Macs, and that's MY preference.

This isn't a rant at you, I'm probably agreeing with you, I slept maybe 2 hours and got a crappy nap between, I'm so tired right now I'm probably arguing with myself haha.

You can get the MAC interface on the PC also.

Any virus problem on the PC can be solved with simply installing an Anti-Virus. I haven't had a Virus problem since I installed AVAST! Anti-Virus.
And you can get the Windows OS on Mac. It all really boils down to preference. A lack of viruses is just one less hassle for Mac users. Of course I still have anti-virus software though... Can't be too careful.

I'm too poor for one... and I like playing games... and there is some guy I work with that was going on about how Macs were superior in every way, then was bragging because he had a phone with windows...

I use a mac for a few reasons...
1. Electronics fail on me. They die left and right. My mac, as I had hoped, has not crashed once on me. I've had it for nearing three months now, and... Well, that's an absolute miracle in my book.

2. My, "I have more fun on the console," always brings on bullshit comments like, "PC gaming is better OMG!!1! There's no good reason for you to be not playing your games on a PC!"
If I say, "I have a Mac," people are more likely to shut the fuck up. (I don't usually use profanity like that, but really, that's how I feel about PC elitism)

3. I've been working on getting WINE to work with my Mac. If I can get Gecko installed, then I should be able to use all the software I need with it.

4. Jaromil's fork bombs are pretty. x.x
Not a very good reason for mac using, but they are.

I've used PCs most of my life, but about a year ago, I took a class that required using a mac. I spent the entire semester getting to know it and OSX, and I can say with confidence that it is 100% preference. There has been nothing that I found on that mac that I couldn't already do on a pc. Every software people claim that make macs great can also be found on windows. I don't care about things like a sleek exterior, or beautiful bells and whistles in the operating system.

Bottom line: People use Macs for preference.

A computer is a computer (unless you use Linux). Anything you can do on a Mac you can do on a PC, which isn't always the case vice-versa. The issue I have with Mac is the Mac-tax. I don't feel like paying an extra $300 for a machine that focuses on dicking around. I don't do a lot of PC gaming, but I do a lot of emulation (which is fine because I own every cartridge ever, ever) which has a much friendlier approach on PC.

Anything that you could think of (video editing, music production, dicking around) could be done on either Mac or PC. Whichever is better (despite the douchey commercials) is just a matter of opinion.

You're addressing Mac users... On a gaming forum...

0p3rati0n said:
because PC are f*cking shit!!!! I don't care to much about gaming. Macs have CoD2 in which I'm set! Everything else can be bought on a 360 on which I'm getting in 2 days. So there! It depends on what you want in a computer. If you use a PC fine If you use a Mac fine. But people keep thinking PCs are made by Microsoft! They're not god damnit! If you going to start a debate/flame war do it properly. Don't say the console (aka PC) is better than MACs OS!!! But I like Mac OS better than Windows! Why? Because at least it doesn't gum the f*ck up in 18 months!!!! Also it just comes more naturally to me.
You're saying that we should start a debate/flame war properly when your post is riddled with exclamation marks. Calling the PC a console because it does games better than your beloved Mac does makes you look butthurt over an obvious superiority that Windows has, and has always had, over OS-X.

If you hate Windows then you should get Windows 7, because all of the things that Vista and XP had wrong aren't there. At least the things I noticed with Vista and XP. I doubt they've fixed EVERYTHING but it's certainly better. I hated Windows XP but I hated Vista more. Windows XP at least worked 100% of the time even if you needed to reinstall it every 6 months. Windows 7 so far for me has had no problems and I've had it since beta. Now that Windows 7 is out Apple isn't going to have a whole lot to say for those "Get a Mac" ads on TV.

Hi, I'm a PC and Windows 7 was my idea. It's the best thing I've done for my computer since buying her a 9800GT. It has total compatability with everything I've installed on it that worked with XP but not Vista, and I didn't even need the "XP Mode" program, I didn't even have to do any additional tweaking. Not only that but it's a lot faster than XP was, too.

It's also supposed to have full driver/hardware compatability with stuff designed for Windows XP and Vista, but I don't feel like testing that, besides my graphics card but it's a Nvidia card and they released Windows 7 drivers for everything DURING THE BETA..

Windows only really fucks up if YOU THE USER fuck it up anyway, I will admit that having to reinstall Windows XP every 6 months was probably me being too lazy to clean out the registry or do a defrag.

Anyways, that's all I have to say on the matter. I actually don't know much about Macs besides that the only people who put games on them are... like... Blizzard... Somebody please fill me in who isn't a raging fanboy like the person I quoted.

I don't hate Macs, it's just I don't use one because I can game and do everything the Mac does on my PC. Even if the Mac may do video editing and shit better than my PC does.

Edit: I almost forgot, No Macs are not more secure than PCs are. It's just that people aren't as familiar with them yet and that not as many people are using Macs as they are using Windows. Basically the only reason you're more secure is because less people give a shit about you than they do about Windows. Saying "Oh but there's over 9000000000 viruses for Windows!" doesn't quite work out for you since the very second everyone owns a Mac, everyone who wrote viruses for the PC is going to shift over and do it to you guys. When that happens it'll be Microsoft saying "Oh but Macs have over 90000000000000000000000000000 viruses compared to Windows!" in their "Get a PC" ads.

I was a PC user my whole life until I got my current computer. What made me go to mac? Vista. If Windows 7 is as good as i've been hearing i'll probably jump back for my next computer purchase, but seriously given the choice between buying a mac (i.e. learning a new, but well designed operating system) or a computer that came with vista (i.e. learning a more familiar, but horribly horribly broken operating system) i didn't really see it as much of a choice. Using a mac took some getting used to, but once i got the hang of it I've had no problems with it. I'm not really a 'mac person' or a 'pc person', i'll just buy whatever seems to be the best at the time for whatever reason

on a side note tho: surfing the internet downloading dodgy programs willy nilly without any virus protection on my computer and never, ever having to worry about anything ballsing up is nice. Like really nice. I may have to stick with mac for that reason alone until more A-holes start writing viruses to target them.

Why do you use a Mac?

I've been a PC user and lover for many years now, and I've tried to use/get into Macs, and I just can't do it. With a Mac, I feel like I'm paying more just for the name and cause everything looks flashy. Which is fine, I'm just not into that.

So I wanna know, Mac users (and Mac users ONLY), why do you personally use a Mac?

I kindly request that all PC users keep from posting in this thread. However if you have used, are currently using/own a Mac, you can comment about your experience.

Also, please try to refrain from comparing "PC" or "Mac." I'm not trying to do a Vs. here, I just want opinions on what makes you use a Mac. If it's something that your Mac can do that a PC can't do, then feel free to comment on that, but please try not to harp on that fact.

I would also like to know what OS youre running on your system. Do you strictly run OS X, do you run OS X and Windows XP? Vista? 7? Please, share.

To restate myself, im not trying to start a Vs. war, I am just trying to get a better understanding of what Macs have out there to offer, maybe I didn't get the full usage out of a Mac when i tried it.
I use a mac because my parents bought me a macbook pro as a surprise to cheer me up after the school bully broke my arm.
Dang... the same thing happened to me and I didn't get shit.....
I like both, mac for movie editing and Itunes being immensely superior to media player. PC for almost everything else.

Yup, the smallest tend to make the most noise, which is true in almost all groups that are looked down upon.

I think generally speaking people are tolerant enough of the product/thing but just can't stand the user base, even if it is just the smallest amount. We generalise and then when we generalise tensions rise :p

Good points, from which I fully agree about. :D

*Inserting lame joke* But atleast PC's aren't made from freaken fruit ! *ending extremely lame joke*

Right. I'm at uni and I have to go to these design lectures once a week. 3 hour thing.
The lecturer uses a Mac and a tablet and he does a demo in Photoshop or whatever and it looks totally seamless.
I went into the worky-place. All the PC's were taken so I thought "I'm only coding, I'll just open xCode". I sat down. Stared at it for a minute then had to ask someone how to open it. Then when I figured it out, it didn't work properly.
From this I can gather that Macs are good for design people but they are WAAAAAY less intuitive, harder to navigate and generally less fun. I feel like if I were to have one, I'd require tossers spectacles and would have to think a cow stored in formaldehyde is art. They're also overpriced and don't play games.

Irony. I have a PC that I've had since Windows 95. 95 worked fine. 98 worked fine. 2000 worked fine. XP worked fine. Then I traded up. Vista worked fine. 7 works fine. My 360 works fine. My original Xbox works fine.
My sister has bought 5 iPods in 4 years.
