I have an old mac laptop and a gaming PC. Mac is nice in that you can get along with pretty much only buying MS Office, the quicktime upgrade (Pro or Plus, i dont remember what its called. Regardless, it lets you use teh camera to record video and opens up video editing options) and no other software and still have a relatively good system for creative purposes. I also just like the operating system more. I hate vista with a passion, i've kept my PC on windows XP and i intend to do so until I'm forced out of it. Never seen a windows 7 computer so can't comment much on that. But I do feel safer on the mac, mainly because there just arent that many mac-focused viruses out there because PCs are a much bigger market. It's cleaner looking than windows has ever been, but it has a low customization level. I like having both though, the mac laptop/windows desktop works well.

I remember that I used to love Macs because they were so colorful and friendly looking.

...In 4th grade.
This, about 100 times

People used to like them...In 4th grade... Now its funny to see the people with macs complaining because they don't know how to use simple windows programs

I mean, how can you not know how to use Powerpoint?

I had to set up my friend's mac for her when she got it. Worst time of my life. It just wants to do everything for you, and if you even tried to go outside what it wanted to do, it through a big fit.

Also, I have i-tunes because of my ipod and I dislike it as well. I have, in every possible menu, told it not to do anything on its own and not to even ask me. So, for example, I have it set to NOT open on start up and to NOT check for updates. And yet, every time I start my computer, it pops up saying "There is an update, install?". Like.. wtf?

Mac does not suck. I will give it that Macs are VERY good at what they do. But what they do it artistic stuff such as photoshop, movie making, music making, and looking damn fine while it does it. Problem is, once you go outside of its nice little box (ie: gaming, programming, science programs (MATLAB, MAPLE, ECT.), PCs tend to destroy them. I don't do artistic stuff, so I don't use Macs.

Finally, does it bug anyone when Mac says on a commercial they have a new feature (ex: a couple years ago started bragging about a 2 button mouse), when PC's have had said feature all along?
First off let me say that I like your avatar (Go Germany)
However, saying that Macs aren't good for programming is a lie. I'm a computer science major and I use my Mac for my CS work and it works pretty well.

I personally have both but I only use my PC for gaming and............listening to music because that what I have my speakers hooked up to. EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING else I do on my Mac

my dad started off being a mac salesman. i originally preferred windows until mac OSX, when i understood how awesome and simple everything is.

i've also needed laptops installed with windows for school, and have had to deal with shitty windows computers for years. i have a macbook now and it's nearly 2 years old and has yet to give me grief.

the reason i prefer macs is:
1. i'm the pretentious sort
2. low cost macs > low cost windows.

i'm sure high powered expensive windows are awesome. but not the shitty laptops and all in one desktops. they are the devil.

I used to be a Mac user 10 years ago. I gave them up because they were super crashy. I could hardly get through an internet session without Netscape crashing 3 or more times (remember, 10 years ago. Don't laugh.) They may have fixed that since then but I have no reason to switch and have to re-buy all my software and hardware.

My family uses macs, it just happened I've gotten more used to them and don't want to move to windows.
I do however, want a newer intel based mac so I can use crossover. I'm using OS X version 10.4 and everything good is for 10.5 and later.

You're forgetting, they also write their screenplays in Starbucks for 8 hours everyday.
don't hate my screen plays really good. Its essentially the Iliad but set in space
I was being sarcastic but now that I think about it that idea would be cool

Irony++.

The right tool for the right job. The Mac is not for everyone (and frankly I want to keep it out of everyone's hands - being the elitist bastard that I am), nor should it be pushed on everyone.

You make sure you tell your uncles that a qualified technician (Apple Certified Technical Coordinator) told them they're flaming morons for trying to push their shit, and should be thrown off a cliff.

certified technical coordinator? your a computer fixer-upper. XD
Systems Engineer. I don't fix the hardware, I have a technician who scores 99.56% on his hardware exams for that. Mostly I specialise in pushing deployment solutions into government and education.

As far as laptops go. Getting a Mac is a no brainer in my opinion. The build quality over most other makes is just too good in my personal experiences.
Desktops, building your own is the best option there, without a doubt.

I got my mac for free at my school. Well, I say free, but there was a tiny, itty bitty sum to own it. I got the cash from a gift to purchase it so I could own it so, yeah, I own a Mac practically because it was given to me.

Nifty little thing, if you've modded it to hell software wise so it's basically Windows.

Ubuntu is better than both, and it's ALOT more cost effective!
It's a lot less time effective, also it's the least cool of the various linux builds, so *pokes tongue out*

I wanted to use a mac (obviously this was before I bought an ipod and got screwed around by apple far beyond the point of me ever wanting to deal with them again). They do (or did at the time) basic functions far more effectively than windows (XP at the time, and late into XPs life cycle it was disgraceful for newer computers), the only reason I didn't was because I'm on a budget (Apple are well and truly on the bandwagon of 'let's all charge Australians tripple'). I'd imagine that the current cut down system is again faster than Windows Vista/7 for most things not gaming related.

*raises hand* Artist. And, no, I'm not starving 'cos I have freelance work already so poo on you! Artists can make plenty of money, just depends on the field.

My school's full of Macs too (unless you're in animation). It's pretty cool but I hate the brand. In fact, I hated Macs with a passion... 'til I got one >.>; Well, I still hate their marketing so I have a case that covers it all up! Nobody knows I have one unless they look at my screen. :D Also, running XP for games though I mainly stay in OSX. Might give 7 a try soon though...

Seriously, I hate the marketing. I kinda wanted to find the advertising guy and tell him to stop making us look like douchebags.

Oh, also again, extremely good customer service but not nearly as easy to hack and such. Gotta get all into Terminal D: Bleh... No overclocking either. Double bleh... Oh well. It's easy, that screen's saved my life countless times and I got it loads cheaper through my school (err... by that I mean the screen is insanely good for how much I paid).

I use it because I fly back and forth all the damn time, and so I like a machine that doesn't require me acting out a scene from bizzare tentacle anime porn just to get it running. Also, it runs WoW just fine, which is all I really play other than console games.

well having used a MAC for a little bit to edit video, they are really nice if your "artsy" other than that i didn't get much into it but it seemed like it was just another computer and it had its flaws like the endless pinwheel of doom! that forces you to turn the MAC off if the interrupt command fails, and it failed a lot when i tried it, about 60% of the time. and mind you this was on a brand new imac all in one, i don't really remember the other specs.

To be honest, I like mine because it boots faster, doesn't get viruses (and the extraordinarily few it can get are really pissy), isn't compatible with USB viruses (good for me, I use it as a quarantine) and I actually find that I use it more often for non-gaming related purposes than I do with my supercharged PC. That and it looks awesome at a fraction of the space.

That help?

EDIT: And besides, most people in this world just aren't tech-savvy. Macs are a while lot less hassle.

I thought i'd try a mac after using windows for years, partly to see what they're really like and partly because i heard they're good for musicians. I've had it for over a year, and i've been pretty happy with it so far. Yeah, you pay a larger price, but considering the cost of running anti-virus over the space of a few years means the price difference isn't as much as people would have you believe (kinda like how a 360 is cheaper than a PS3, but paying for LIVE after a few years would make the 360 more expensive). And garageband is great, decent music recording software can be pretty damn expensive, so to have a program like that included for free definitely justifies the price for me.

One thing i don't get is how some people complain that macs are too expensive, PCs can do it cheaper, etc. But do people really give a shit as to how much someone else spends on their computer? I mean, really? And what's wrong with a computer looking good? I'd like to see more companies make products that were a little more visually appealing.
