Okay, about an Hour ago I finished watching both of the live action Death Note movies. I have watched all of the anime and am burrently reading the manga. In my opinion I have to say that the live action was much better than the anime just because of the episodes after a certain even (you all know what I;m talking about!).

If you haven't already seen the movies then i suggest you do! I definetly prefer the way it ended because...
it actually ended with the battle between Light and L!

I don't want to ruin anything for anyone who hasn't seen both, but I want to ask; who agrees or disagrees with me and why?

I made this thread because on a lot of anime discussions I have noticed people complaning about how Death Note ended and because I agree with them, was wondering whether anypone preferred how it happened in the movies.

i didn't like death note the anime. takes itself way too seriously and gets super overdramatic, but the real nail in the coffin is the laughably convoluted, broken chains of logic.

totally unrealistic, like a high school sophomore trying to write a complex mystery plot about two rivals who are far more intelligent than the writer is capable of effectively writing.

I like Death Note in general. I own the manga, anime, and both live action movies. The anime's ending was toned down for TV for some reason and didn't have anywhere near the same feel as the manga. As for the ending of the movies, the result of the ending is the same but the build up left a less somber feeling. Some things felt odd in the movies, mostly just how they differed noticeably in many places from the manga, but the ending felt very well done. It felt like it could have been done that way in the manga and been just fine.

I really don't prefer one to the other (manga to movie) but the anime's toned down ending is by far the worst of the lot.

Just...no. The anime was laughably overdramatic, but the live-action...*shakes head*
I have one thing to say on this:

That is all.

Well the live action does have the host from the original Iron Chef in it. So clearly live action is superior.

I never did watch the second Death Note movie, but I did like how different the first one was from the original story. Not that I dislike the original story, or anything, but reinterpretations can excite me.

The live action movies were awful, and innaccurate. And they even succeed in making L's deductions make even less sense.

The only upside of the movies is that they involve a red hot chilli peppers song.

There's a third film you know...? I've not seen it myself, can't see the point after the end of the second :p http://drama.watchanimeon.com/death-note-3-l-change-the-world/

OT: I actually saw the films before the anime (They were being shown on Film4 a year or two ago), I had never bothered delving into the manga or anime because they were so popular with a few people at my school whose opinions I didn't think too highly of.
But watching the films was fun, I didn't mind them too much and as it was my first introduction to the story - albeit a toned down and quite changed version - I had a good time watching them!

Talking to some friends a month or so ago they brought up the anime and said how good it was, having only seen the live-actions myself I joined in a bit but felt like I was missing a lot. So I watched the anime series and enjoyed it quite a lot! I think I prefer the series to the films now, but I don't have any sort of grudge against them seeing as the live-action got me into Death Note!

Oh and I can't talk about the manga, I've not read it, maybe I'm very slowly working my way up...? :p

well most of the time the formula is:

manga > anime > live movie

i saw the movies all 3 of them and i saw the anime .... while the anime was clearly over the top it was enjoyably over the top but really got boring after
L dies
the movies were kinda low on intel and kinda fun to watch. "meh" would be my rating for it.

I liked them. They were in some ways woefully inadequate in length and substance to really convey the original story but as movies they were pretty good.

I never expect too much of Live Action versions of things but was pleasantly surprised. It *could* have been dreadful.

Potato chip etc.

Anyways, at one point I would've liked to see the live action Death Note, but... You know. Dramatic slow motion chocolate eating.

I pretend there was no second half of Death Note.
