Wikipedia describes it perfectly.

Deathcore is an extreme metal subgenre. It is an amalgamation of metalcore and death metal. Deathcore is heavily influenced by modern death metal in its speed, heaviness, and approach to chromatic, heavily palm muted riffing and dissonance. Traditional growls and screaming are common. Clean vocals are very rare, but present in certain ocasions of songs. Deathcore is defined by breakdowns and a focus on fast tempos and abrasiveness. Bands also incorporate melodic riffs and guitar solos similar to those in metalcore.
The reason I've made this thread is because most people I know dislike the music, some people believe it's nothing more than screaming into a microphone for money. I like it, I like the fast paced beat, the way the screaming compliments the music, and I also like how the music is the only thing that can keep me awake at 7 in the morning.

Most people have the most horrible stereotypes about people who listen to Deathcore, that they worship satan, and all that other terrible stuff. The worst thing is, people I know who know I like Deathcore now believe that any day now will be my 'rampage day' where I bring a gun into school for nothing more than the 'luls' and kill everyone.

So I was just wondering if anyone else on the Escapist likes Deathcore, and if you don't would you mind explaining why you don't like it.

Two of my favourite Deathcore Songs.

It's ok, I not really into the whole genre war of 'deathcore' 'metalcore' 'grindcore', music is music. But you might want to check out Bleed From Within they are pretty good.

As a general rule: not really. Anything that ends in "Core" that isn't the "Hardcore" punk subgenre of the 80s I try to stay away from. As with everything though, I'll give bands a fair trial.

I do like metal but I've never heard a "deathcore" band that really grabbed me. Traditional death metal bands have better riffing but average vocals with no real melody to speak of, whereas traditional metalcore bands have more interesting stuff in the way of melody and vocal experimentation but the heavier riffs are just horrible one-note chugging. Deathcore seems to me like it takes all the major weak points of both styles and combines them, while leaving out each styles' strengths completely. The potential for a good deathcore band that could focus on the strengths of each style therefore theoretically exists, but I'm yet to hear one, and if I did, it probably wouldn't sound like deathcore anyway.

I'm kind of into deathcore. Though I'm not a fan of many -core genres, this band is one of the exceptions:

I don't mind a bit of deathcore now and then but generally I prefer something with more melody to it really... also I like my heavy screaming to be a bit slower I think o_O

My best example for what I mean is Defiler...

I generally prefer Metalcore and Death Metal to their bastard child Deathcore, but I quite like bands like Job For a Cowboy (now Deathmetal) and Bring Me The Horizon (now Metalcore).

Yeah... I said I like JFAC and BMTH. I'll be sitting here waiting for the mob and it's fire and pitchforks. :3

I'm not a fan, no. Even at the height of my metal phase, I didn't enjoy the screaming-growling vocals and difficulty to tell what notes are even being played.

I can't stand it. I like understanding what the singer is saying, rather than it sounding like ROAWWWWWARARRWARRARWRAR. I still don't dislike the fans, until they start saying that no other music is valid.

BonsaiK summed it up perfectly for me.

Deathcore doesn't sound bad on paper, but I've yet to hear a band I've liked in that style.

Joins MrEnigami's vigil.

I'm not much into it, simply by virtue of not liking a lot of the bands classified as deathcore, with the exceptions of Job For A Cowboy and Bring Me the Horizon. I have nothing against any genre, I like or dislike bands, not genres.

The above examples don't sound like music to me at all, so i can see where people are coming from. However it's still stupid to say one genre of music is any better or worse than another, since everyone likes such different things, especially with music.
