As the latest trend here on the Escapist seems to be actually making games instead of just bitching about them I sat down tonight and churned out a little demo for a game idea I had. It's a simple little puzzle game where your dude has to push boulders and/or crates as through and around portals. I'm sure a pro could do a lot better but I'm actually fairly proud of myself.

Note: There is actual gameplay in this demo and it's relatively bug free. You can give it a try by downloading it from here [http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=5a83bf50902fda3fd2db6fb9a8902bda]

The game itself will be about a young man who wakes up in a foreign place and finds himself on a question to rescue six princesses, all of which are strangely familiar to him. I'm probably going to do my own art and tilesets as well because the rpg maker sets are... well... limiting to say the least. Anyway feed back is always welcome.

It was a pretty cool demo. Yeah it wasn't terribly original but those types of games are fun, plus it was amusing. Keep up the good work.

It was shorter than I was hoping it would be.

One problem I found though. The second red button of re-setting moved a crate to a different position so that you couldn't complete the second puzzle unless you started the demo all over again.

I can see this being pretty fun when it's finished.

Oh yeah sorry guys. Originally the crates could be moved. Problem was that the engine for determining where a boulder is going never actualy stops. A boulder would hit something and stop, then accelerate again whenever what was blocking it was removed, so I had to remove the movable crates for now. I just forgot to modify the switch in light of that.

The demo is really just giving me a very basic idea of some of the game mechanics I want to implement.

Fuck yeah! I've taken on board all your criticism and hereby release this game that bears no resemblance whatsoever to that previous demo!

The controls are as follows.

Arrows: Moves your Spaceship
ctrl: Fires lasers
space: fires rockets

You have three rockets and the little green things adds a rocket to your stockpile. I'd recomend saving your rockets for the heavy cruisers.

Oh and trust me when I say this, the sound effects will blow your bollocks off

Here we go [http://www.mediafire.com/?gkoljnpxwwb]

No installs, no RTP packages, just extract and play.

I haven't downloaded it yet, but...

How on earth did you go from block pushing to spaceships?

I shall now download it, then play it, then possibly laugh in a merry fashion.

Edit: The file type isn't something my computer knows how to run. Silly computer.
Any chance you can set it up for download in the same format as the last one?

No... for me it's a rar file. I don't even know what that is! Something to do with Quicktime...

The other game was good except for the glitch on the second puzzle. I laughed at a couple of the jokes you threw in, especially the Nuke Lassic tomb stone.

Guys, a .rar is a compressed folder, similar to .zip.
You can extract it with Winrar [http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm]

No. Your game tries to open itself in Quicktime. Is that supposed to be a joke?

*googles "winrar" so he can play the stinkin' game*

This had better be worth it Decoy.

Or else *shakes fist in a manner that suggests hordes of gesticulating red doom swarming over your lifeless body while I look down from a vantage point and laugh*

Edit:
*plays game*

Okay Decoy. You're off the hook.
For now.

Hmmm I downloaded WinRAR, installed it and opened the game with it. I still get the error message saying it's not a file Quicktime understands.

Fuck Quicktime. I wanted to play this game.

Most computers will try to find a program that can open a file it's not sure of. Apparently, quicktime has some use for .rar files, whether they're the archives we're familiar with or something apple made up. For instance, when I download .rar files, they show up as the quicktime icon, not the stuffit expander icon in firefox.

On topic, I can't play it because it's an .exe.
