A friend and I just started renting a dedicated server which we're primarily gonna use for L4D between friends, since we're sick of all the crap, like being kicked for no reason, lag, a-holes etc. Has anyone done this and have any tips, tricks etc.? It's the first time either of us have really done it.

All i can tell you is that I play L4D on my friend's priv server and its awesome. Sadly i dont know the mechanics but you can have a lot of fun with your own server.
edit: you can get it cheaper than £18 a month, if you're in europe check out french server prices as they got the best upload speeds.
