Deep Down PS4 Dungeon Crawler Will Be Free To Play

Open Beta is planned near the Japanese PS4 launch date, says Shuhei Yoshida.

Tweet [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/127578-New-Deep-Down-Trailer-Crawls-Out-Of-2094-New-York] the news, along with an open Beta planned near the PS4's Japanese launch date.

Deep Down is a fantasy dungeon crawler nominally set in New York circa 2094. You play as someone who has the ability to read memories trapped in artifacts and monuments, which is why you keep finding yourself facing off against dragons and the like. There will be co-op play, for up to three friends, and a playable demo has been doing the rounds at TGS. Our Steven Bogos had a look at it and came away unimpressed [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/127947-Deep-Down-Hands-On-Preview-Clunky-And-Gray], mainly thanks to clunky combat and an insufficient variety of monsters to smite.

This PS4 exclusive doesn't have a confirmed release date yet.

I'll take all the f2p I can get since I'll be too broke to buy any games after I get my ps4 for awhile anyway. Ps plus for the win!

Capcom and Free to Play?

There goes my interest, lets hope Knack is better.
I admit Capcom has a bad history in that department, but would you rather not hear more of what the game has to offer and how it intends to make you pay before jumping on the Capcom hate-wagon?

Well I know it isn't funny hats and probably not cosmetics, which are the only forms of Free 2 Play I don't mind.

Also this.

Youre right not to trust Capcom with the shit theyve pulled in recent history.

But as TB said on the subject, "Dont judge the chicken before its cooked."

I don't think lack of interest = hate-wagon. Seems like Ed130 has some legitimate concerns based on Capcom's history with dlc, along with the current trends for F2P games.

I've never heard TotalBiscuit say that. And I've mostly followed the way of Yahtzee ever since I was burned by Dragon Age 2.

guess which version is me most of the time

At most I had was mild interest in Deep Down, but now its time to assume its shit until otherwise stated.

Its less lack of interest and more apathy these days.

I'm not going to go out of my way to hate on Capcom or Deep Down but I'm not going to follow any new information from them either.

Ugh, well I /was/ interested. Energy mechanic, pay to revive, gachapon, pay to unlock chests ahoy.

(It may not go that way, but odds are...)

Ouch... I'll be avoiding this. I don't consider procedural generation a positive in most games. I don't trust Capcom to really handle F2P well either. But who knows, maybe I'll be wrong and it'll be awesome. We'll see though.

I suppose it's better than buying and then being nagged into using a pay to win cash shop but only just.

"Yes, completely free to play. Now if you don't want to enter the dungeon in only your underwear and wielding a stick, pay us 50 real dollars for basic armor and sword."
