So I'm currently being swept off of my feet in an old school gamer way by Dragon's Dogma.

I came across this trailer, and found out that this could possibly be the sequel.

I would actually get a PS4 just for Deep Down, if it is in fact, Dragon's Dogma 2.

This footage is supposedly gameplay footage btw.

One of these day's I'll learn how to embed videos....*sigh*

To embed youtube videos you need the code at the end of the url, e.g. [you.tube=Zek3eUBHlE4] (just without the full stop)

OT: I'm not convinced it's actual gameplay footage to be honest but who knows I might be over cynical.

We use BBCode around these parts! (HTML might work, I don't know anything about it though.)

To embed Youtube videos, you copy "youtube" and "Zek3eUBHlE4" (or whatever the video code is) then connect them with "=" inside of brackets "[ ]"

If you hit the Quote button right above my post, it'll show you the code in action.

Anyway, I still have yet to put the time into Dragon's Dogma that it deserves, I keep getting distracted by tons of other games, but what I've played has been pretty fun.

Dunno what would make rumors abound that that's a sequel though, it's not like there's really a shortage of "dark" fantasy in video games.

Great until the end. The last thing I need in Dragon's Dogma is another person constantly talking while I'm trying to get immersed.

No way that's in-game graphics. Not even close.
But still, I really enjoyed DD, so if this is a proper sequel I'll pay attention to it. There's a lot of stuff the first game needed touching up on, so this should hopefully be good.

I hope that the bit at the end was like a 4th wall breaking bit and not an actual thing in the game though. Games that try to emphasise that you're playing a game without it being mind-fucky in some way nearly always end up annoying me for whatever reason.

I'd say it's certainly a possibility.

Also no way that's in0game footage like hazabaza said.
We may be about to switch gens, but the spin ain't goin' anywhere.

Many thanks! I didn't realize how easy it was! We'll have to look into BBCode....hmmm

While there seems to be no shortage of dark fantasy games, there are a shortage of games that are as engaging as Dragon's Dogma is. I mean, it's old school Capcom meeting the modern genre blending tendencies.

I'd actually say that the feel of the combat is better than anything like it today, including Amalur and especially Skyrim. You literally create your own stories through the combat. Just last night I took my party out to an unexplored region of Gransys while the sun was going down. On the way back to our safe place/camp/etc, I fought my first Chimera. It was an amazing experience b/c the beast came randomly out of no where, and it's not easy to defeat. Everyone who plays this game will have their own experience. I'm a freaking Magic Archer for crying out loud! LOVE this game. All the complaints over the game design that people seem to be having don't phase me. I highly recommend it.

I really, really want to believe those are in-game graphics. I really do. /sigh

Also, I've just finished Dark Souls and have a fantasy-RPG-shaped hole in my life, would you recommend Dragon's Dogma for me? Or if not what else?

I'd wager you'll enjoy Dragon's Dogma. It has a lot of really deep features to it that aren't used in a lot of other games that make it really unique. Getting wet has penalties, being covered in oil makes you catch fire easily, you need to buy and find oil to keep your lantern lit, and being outside at night is really fucking dark, and you'll end up getting swarmed by skeletons and ghosts and other supernatural enemies that only come out at night. Things like that make it "hardcore", in a sense, in a similar way, but maybe not as polished, as Dark Souls. It's a pretty hard game, though gets easier as you go along, like many RPGs.

I'd say wait for Dark Arisen, as it'll have the full game and the expansion, and some improvements across the board to make it better in loading times and tedium.

To me, it looks like they crossed game footage with cinematics.
Word, I'd say so too.

00:36 - 00:56 could easily be in game footage. A few bits when the dude is fighting the dragon (played quite badly it looks like too) also looks in game to me.

Sounds good, it's cool when games include little details like that. It's a game I've been mildly interested in for a while but never known much about. Aha, good timing I suppose, Wikipedia tells me Dark Arisen comes out today. :O

Any idea if they'll be doing the Demons Souls to Dark Souls route and releasing the second game on PC at all? I'm very interested in Dragon's Dogma, but had to miss the first game due to not being a console player. I'd hate to miss out on this franchise entirely.
