Hi all,

I used to use that Windows One (or whatever it was called) it did loads of stuff in one "scan," disk errors, firewall updates, defrag, ect. The defrag, if I remember right took, about, 20 minutes. It was a pretty good system, but I stopped using it when my trial ran out.

I started to defrag my rig last night. It is still not done! It has been close to 12 hours now! It is a pain in the bum because there is no progress bar, so I do not know how much is done. I have a 500G hard drive of which 400G is used and it must be, 6 months since I did a defrag, even still, should it be taking this long??

When I was running XP I had a 250G one and defrags used to be done in an hour, tops......

One of my dorm-mates had a problem like that with her laptop. She took it to IT and they said something about her HD being screwed up. I'd check that. There's no reason for it to take that long.

Couldn't say for sure but I've seen defrags take a long time and I mean A LONG TIME. I left mine on over night and it was barely done when I woke up but the computer that I did that on was probably more than a tad past it's best days.

If your using Vista or Windows 7 you shouldn't need to defrag as A. Its done automatically and B. the NTFS file system is designed to not get too fragmented compared with FAT32/16.

Maybe try googling for an alternative defrag program

Its done automatically? I never knew that. Fuck it, if that is the case I'll stop the defrag.
