Hey, I just reilized that SCC was supposed to come out yesterday, until they delayed it for whatever reason. It made me think though, what games have/had you guys been looking forward to that were delayed?

Overlord 1 like 3 years ago

It was supposed to come out on a Friday, but ended up being on shelves on Sunday. So much for wasting that weekend with it.

Star craft 2.

I don't mind games being delayed for release as long as they actually do something with the extra time, most times the game developers delay a game and when it comes out it still looks half baked.

Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess was delayed at first, I think. Course I didn't really look forward to it. I just wanted to try out the next attempt to make a fun Zelda.

I think the Wii was delayed for release as well, but hell if I actually remember.

Most games I've gotten weren't delayed, so I'm good there.

Sims 3 was pushed back 4 months because EA felt they needed more time to set up the marketing campaign.
Yet it was still a bug-ridden mess when it came out :p

Worst delay: Final Fantasy 13. And now, it's almost here.

Also, first post from personal laptop! YAAAAAAAAAAY!

I don't really mind delays too much. There hasn't been a game out there that I was absolutely outraged when it was delayed.

Stalker is the example that springs to mind. I remember reading about that game in the preview section of a magazine...along with Half-Life 2 and Far Cry.

Yea, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl was a long time to wait. Luckily later games have been (about) on time. Call of Pripyat translating time was a pain also but damn is it ever so awesome game.

I don't mind delays. Usually when a game is delayed, it's because the publisher is willing to sink more cash into the game itself. When it comes to developers with tons of cash (Blizzard and Valve respectively) well they delay games to work on it.

The only delay that ever bothered me was the DLC of DA:O. And only because I felt it was a critical part of the full story (and should have been on the disc or been on the marketplace on day 1 like Warden's Keep). It was not something I should have experienced through my third playthrough. Any emotional impact it could have had was long gone by then.

I actually like when games are given more time to be polished.
Agreed.

Polish is the magic glue that makes the holy trinity of Story, Gameplay and Art Direction hold together. Frankly I'd be perfectly happy if most companies took the attitude of 'It will be done when it is done' and not commit to a date until they're about %90 finished.

That's why I will not complain about 'What's takin' Episode 3 so long?'

Bioshock 2 :p and dead rising 2 :p
Yeah, I was a bit disappointed when Bioshock 2 got pushed back (along with a few others). Didn't it have something to do with companies not wanting to compete with the release of Generic Wargame #2038 (aka MW2)?

The delays on GTAIV also pissed me off a bit.
