Though I know no one with Asperger's, I've read quite a bit about it, in part because it seems to be a fad for people who are merely agoraphobic without the genuine neurological effects of the disease. I'm not 100% clear on how the DSM distinguishes between Asperger's and autism, although if I'm not mistaken, part of it has to do with one's ability to form relationships.

I think it is a terrible name for it.

At best it sounds like your some rumpsteak affectionado and at worst some sort of compulsive analingus fetichist.

It should have a name that is more descriptive, like Henry Higgins syndrome or some such.

I have something that's sort of like Asperger. The name for what I have is a complex acronym meaning "misalliances".

Got an uncle with it, had a roommate with it, know a couple others that self-diagnose themselves as such. The uncle is a bona-fide psychiatric treatmenty type with OCD. I probably wouldn't diagnose as such but the associated traits run in the family some and I struggle with compulsive behavior from time to time. The roommate was dysfunctional to the point of inspiring astonishment; had unusually pronounced lack of coordination and inability to empathize, with tendency to play the same mission in Red Alert the same way twice a day for weeks on end.

So yeah, I'm quite familiar with it.
