I'm right handed but can play the guitar with either hand.
I'm slightly better with my right hand, but overall, I'm fairly good with both.

I used my right hand to strum and my left on the frets. It was quite difficult for me though because my left hand is all over the place compared to my right. I also cant strum with my left hand because if the next is coming across to my right its really awkward for me

I'm a right-handed person who just picked up the guitar a few months ago, so take this as you will.

I think sort of the idea behind it is that by using your dominant hand for the the more simple work, it allows you to focus on the fretting. You can naturally match fretting with your dominant hand on strumming pretty easily, so you barely have to think about it. If it's the other way around, even if fretting by itself is at all easier, doing it in combination with the strumming is now harder, because you have to use your non-dominant hand for strumming, and thus have to think about it more. It becomes harder to do both tasks in unison.
Also, I find that strumming takes more physical strength than fretting.

I dunno, that's just my take on it.

I only started learning a few months ago, so take this as you will...

I'm a right-hander who plays the right-handed way. (Shocking). For me, my left fingers are better at fine tasks, and my right hand is better at gross movements like strumming or swinging a bat.

Just my $0.02.

Right hander and I can't imagine doing it the opposite, but thats pretty interesting that you'd feel more comfortable that way

I'm in the same boat as you: a lefty who plays right-handed. I see what you mean about it seeming more natural, but I've always been inclined to do things right-handed (except for writing), as my dad is right-handed and teaches me to do many of these types of things. Honestly, it just seemed more convenient, but I use it as an excuse for not being very good; that's one of the best things about being a lefty!

Lefty, playing the natural, LEFTY way. Only problem I've ever had was finding a fucking guitar in the first place... -.-

I'm also in your boat. I'm left-handed and also play right-handed. Mainly because A) I can't be arsed with playing left handed (would require me to reorganize the snares EVERYTIME I wanted to play on a guitar that isn't my own) and B) like in your case, it makes more sense to me? Strumming is piss easy so I'm cool with having my weaker hand perform that role while my 'good' hand can focus on the harder task.

Edit: Blackstar, in regards to the tabs - don't 'ask for songs', but instead look for tabs of songs of your favourite music. Unless you listen to avid Dream Theatre solos or complicated ska-punk, you'll probably find your music is easier to play than you thought. Especially if you do it with powerchords (chords like 000355, 000244 and 002440) - it makes you sound like a pro even if you can't play for your life.

I'm right handed, and play the guitar normally. I can play chords and things left handed, but no solos or riffs or anything.

I just always found playing it right handed to be the natural way, but that's also probably because I learned classical guitar for over a year, which includes a lot of complicated finger picking in the more advanced levels. Maybe that's where the whole idea comes from, in that classical guitar came first, and in classical guitar your right hand (or your dominant hand for nautralities sake) was doing all the work, while your left hand just had to hold a single position. It's only since the advent of riffs and the use of plectrums that it might seem silly.

I'm right handed, and play the traditional right handed way...boring, I know.

I have known lefties who have claimed that learning to play right handed guitars(strung normally)was advantageous, because they were using their more dexterious hand to do the fretting.

I don't know if it is better, but I know that it is fairly commonly done.

When I first started private lesson the instructor told me id probly be able to play either way, but after 5 years of playing right-handed is the only thing that feels natural. Probly because of the hours of practice wiring my brain to have my hands react certian ways. And if you keep practicing you can build strength in your hands which will help alot espeacially with bar cords

I'm a right-hander who plays the right-handed way. I play fingerstyle acoustic so both hands need to be pretty nimble and strong. Thinking back though, when I started out it was very dificult, mostly because jumping between chord changes was too much for my seldomly-used left hand. I suppose it was just practice that got it feeling natural for me. T be honest I think with enough practise anything can feel natural enough. If I bought myself a left-hand guitar today I reckon in a couple of months I'd be comfortable with it.

I'm right handed and I can't play left handed... I can do 8 finger tapping while playing right handed, but play left handed is just something I can't do lol.

I'm a lefty and I play right-handed, for the same reasons as the OP. It always made more sense to do it like that to me.

They make left-handed guitars for left-handed people, do they not?

I'm a righty who plays the normal way because I'm bland and uninteresting.
