I had a problem similar. My mouse was connected into my keyboard point or vice versa. Maybe something similar?

Just get it repaired. If you've had it for 7 months it'll still be in warranty. And I don't understand how this affects your work if you said you were doing the work on your laptop?

Oh dang. Sounds like your computer just up and broke. The warranty might still be good. Go see if you can't get and your computer fixed or replaced.

This is really something that needs to be dealt with in person. Your best bet is to wait for your "Computer Scientist" to get back. Even if he can't fix it, he would be able to explain the problem to us in a way that we would know how to fix it.

There's a lot of possibilities. Either start taking things out and trying it (trial and error) or send it to an IT guy.

Sounds like either a dodgey connection thats just finally fallen out or something just fried itself. Shaking the keyboard about wont have done anything unless she pulled it really hard and the USB connection snapped on the motherboard and it caused a short-circuit, but that is pretty far fetched.

Firstly - turn it off and on again and double check all the connections.

Then the best thing you can do is take a look inside it really and check for anything obviously wrong (smoke, unplugged cables, insects) - this does of course require at least some knowledge of how things inside it should be. Really does help to know a thing or three about PCs before buying an expensive one

A chip in the motherboard probably blew up. In that case go to your local computer repair place and have them look it over
