Because DMC2 is inferior to DMC1 in almost every way I can think of. The soundtrack is great, I will admit that, but the combos don't flow anywhere near as nicely, the controls are a little jerkier, the graphics are worse, and the story? Oh don't even get me started on the story. It's completely wonky. Replacing a legitimately interesting antagonist like Mundus or Vergil with some bloke with DBZ hair who is trying to

summon a demon named Argosax or something.

Mainly, though, it's how they changed the combat. Definitely for the worst.

It's mostly the fact the many things were changed and most of those changes altered the gameplay and many parts of the DMC world significantly.

Plus old mature Dante is boring.

I found 2 a great deal easier and less memorable than 1 or 3, the others that I've played. I've finished 2 on DMD and yet I get slaughtered on 1 when I play on Hard. 3 is, I would say, slightly easier than 1 but still a lot harder than 2.

Another point would be the almost complete reversal of Dante's personality with no explanation. In 1 he's quick to taunt the phantom & griffon but the sequel all but does away with pre-boss dialogue, bringing it down to a 'Here's a big ugly bad guy, kill it because it's there' kind of situation.

I think the team originally in charge of 1 wasn't present for 2? I can't remember but something was definitely different.

Devil may cry wasn't done by the original developers, it was a quick cash in sequel. Nothing more.

It really is, in my opinion. The worst of the 3 playstation games.

all I remember about DMC2 was not really knowing what was happening, and when I got to the final boss, I didn't even realize it was a final boss.. when I beat him, I expected to get to a "Next Mission" screen, but i just got to a Game Over screen.

very disappointing in that respect.
