as college is pretty much required to go to uni, so it's much harder to get into.
What? No it isn't.
That's what i know of anyway, i found out by talking to uni students that they did a few college courses before going to uni. Maybe it's not a hundred per cent mandatory, especially if you got good grades but it does help a lot.
Not even 100%, most just come in straight from high school
I'm talking about the British Educational system by the way, you do know that, right?
I do, and the fact you blanket it all under british says something about that because the high school certifications are totally different between countries in Britain

Yea, I brought my psp.
I had three classes a day, two hours between each of them.
Let's just say I played a lot of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.

If I could send a message to myself exactly a year ago, it would be this:

"Hey Neil, see that nice pc you've just got put together and are having a lot of fun using? DON'T TAKE IT TO UNI NEXT SEMESTER! No really you will burn so much time playing Natural Selection 2 and Tribes Ascend that your third year design project will be hit hard, you won't be properly motivated to search for industrial placements, and you'll do the worst you've ever done in your life with the christmas exams. As a result you will drop into the bachelors course, and in summer 2013 you'll be graduated with a 2.2 BEng and having problems finding a job because a lot of employers want 2.1s, bad plan bro, bad plan."

Just my personal experience, that depends on you as a person of course.

I wouldn't blame all that on the accessibility of a gaming PC

When I was at college, I brought my N64, PS2, Xbox 360, and Wii. They had several TVs that you can hook up and play them on. I was somewhat popular when I brought the N64 with Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Smash Bros., Mario Kart 64. PS2 was an arrange of older and (then) newer games.

Is it my PCs fault? Well no, its my fault for not managing my time correctly. But I'm just saying its something you may want to consider. I went from averaging high 60s in first and second year to an average of 50 in those exams. It depends on how easily you get distracted, so it varies from person to person.

I didn't bring any consoles with me at first. I had been playing WoW and quickly gave that up to make room for the actual human beings in the same dorm as me who actually shared my interests. (College is a wonderful time to meet smart people who are also really into gaming/science/comics/etc./etc.) Of course, having met those people, I ended up spending most of my time in another student's dorm playing Halo with the rest of them, so when that student graduated, someone had to contribute a console... The next year I brought my PS2 and XBox and started hosting the regular game night for my group. Another student in my dorm contributed his copy of Rock Band to the lounge, and gaming became a bonding experience for whoever stopped by the first floor. Personally, I never had any trouble with my studies, although I did know one girl who ended up dropping out [allegedly because of WoW in combination with some unrelated problems]. Know thyself, and consider hiding your console if you really need to study-- but knowing when and how to take breaks from your coursework is also an important part of the college experience, and gaming can be a great social connector as well. I say go for it, and don't forget your extra controllers.
