I'm kind of in love with this game a bit. I do have an interest in politics in general, so games of this character has always appealed to me. Unfortunately I kind of suck at it. I ruined Canada and got assassinated by radical Christians (I think). Nuns even, going by the picture...

I've long had an interest in Democracy 3, but early reviews convinced me the game was a bit mechanically flawed and...if not "easy" necessarily than "deceptively limited". Anyone know if future patches have made it better?

Playing at basic difficulty settings and with any country other than the United States gave me no trouble. Within the first four years I had basically fixed all the problems with the country and was keeping security threats to a minimum, all while having maximum positive ratings among enough groups that I had no trouble winning any election I wanted to. It was boring enough that I didn't even bother sticking around to complete certain achievements I know I could have easily gotten. Things are probably a little more enjoyable at higher difficulties, but I got distracted before looking at the higher ones.

Anyways, the game was reasonably fun to figure out, but it had little going for that afterwards. Most of the complexity I saw was easily reduced to a few rules, which made the game deceptively simple in a bad way. It's OK for messing around with the effects of various policies, which is really all the developer wanted, but unless it takes advantage of its systems better at higher difficulties, it really isn't much. I probably should go back and check on those higher difficulties. It looked like it had a lot of potential if not for lack of challenge.

In my experience if I play as true to myself as possible I just end up getting assassinated by conservatives+/religious fanatics. Even in my military heavy state those darn bible thumpers always get me eventually even when I'm winning like 80% of the votes, and have wiped out the debt.

Once you figure out how to balance it out, like yeah the Christians might hate you, but you are so nice to the rich and the middle class that they won't kill you for it, then the game is simply a waiting simulator.

It's a fascinating idea, but too flat.
