That SJW list made me laugh, and then I laughed harder when people were declaring that those people are ruining games.

I don't like MovieBob. I rarely agree with anything he says. And I'm not even talking about his "SJW" stuff. Movie reviews and nostalgia vids are generally crap in my opinion.

Know how I handle it? I don't read his articles. I don't watch his videos. If everyone else wants to, go for it. I won't fault anyone for it, as long as I'm not faulted for not watching.

The article itself has many good links, but is a little old. Only one major development has happened since then. I like moviebob. His taste in movies is similar to mine, and he makes occasional videos about comic books which allows me to talk comics with my friends. That's my entire opinion on him. I don't want it any more complicated than that. People on the internet have no power over you that you don't give them. Just because someone somewhere did something you disagree (or agree) with doesn't mean you have to care. Internet controversy saddens me because it's meaningless. Even if something gets done the amount of people affected is about six. Can we please calm down about this?

I don't care for much of "gamergate" or whatever the buzz is these weeks. I do think it's beyond dumb for people to lump in Jim and Moviebob together in the same bunch. Bob is usually just obnoxious in his stances even when he is kind of right, but Jim is a really pleasant and genuinely funny guy in his videos and tweets (and ask).
But since he said something like "hey, having more space for women in the industry is not bad, and also being a dick to people really hurts whatever point you could had", people go ahead and treat him like he's automatically agreeing with everything "SJW".
Like, really? You make a list of "SJW" on the Escapist and you put Jim and Moviebob on the same level? For fucks sake.

That is an absolutely horrible link. Some people from 4chan even released the logs, showing many of her statements were out of context.

The escapist released an article about it. You can also go on the mega thread and see all the information of what is going on there.

Lot of new stuff coming to surface.

In my time on the forums discussing this issue, I've noticed that many gamergate proponents say that they have evidence to support their case without providing a link to it. I'm pretty frustrated by this, and I simply wish that you would present the evidence you claim debunks my case.

Never much liked Moviebob, always seems to come across too smug about things I don't agree with him on (not that this incident is one of them). Doesn't really surprise me that he rattled the hornets nest on this thing, but I think firing him over it would be pretty fucking stupid.

But Jim is a fucking diamond. How anyone could perceive his utter neutrality on the situation to be an affront to their chosen side of the debate is just beyond me.

I'd like to begin this by saying that I actually really like MovieBob's product- it's nice to be able to find quality movie reviews outside of the local paper.

That being said, Chipman's rude, arrogant, and condescending statements on twitter are absolutely unacceptable. I know that if one of my employees had a case of twitter diarrhea, I wouldn't fire them- but if they consistently attacked my customers over a two week period, I'd fire him.

Now, I'd like to keep MovieBob around, but there need to be some consequences for his actions. The Escapist needs to remind its contributors that while on social media, they still represent the Escapist. I'd also like to see Chipman issue a public apology- and none of that namby pamby, George Bush, bullshit about how "I may have been rude, but I'm still in the right you guys!".

As for the mega thread, it seems to be almost completely dominated by #GamerGate supporters, to say nothing of the difficulty of trying to track down anything in a thread with 22,468 posts. I see no reason to discuss this in that thread, and I specifically created this thread to talk about people's reactions to the escapist's staff's reactions to this. As for me being intellectually dishonest, I see honestly see that article as being an accurate summation without being unnecessarily incendiary while also not trying too hard to be neutral. You can accuse me of being wrong or biased, but I am not intellectually dishonest.

You can be on whatever side of this debate you want to be. He spit out vitrol on his twitter.

The mega thread will be happy to pull any information you want if you ask. People in that thread want to inform others. It seems my open minded comment was looked over very quickly though, since you are dead set in your position.

No. That article is just like when the escapist covered the wizardchan harrasment.... that actually didn't happen. That article slanders the movement, takes lies (since they have been disproven) that Zoe posted, and has spit vitrol at anyone who supports gamergate. It is one of the farthest things from neutral.

What is funny, is you want to link to that article, but the Escapist actually made an article over that topic which was sooooooooooooo much more neutral than what you posted. It even has statements from an advocate of the IRC channel and Zoe.

If you're willing to take the time, we'd be willing to answer your questions over if the big Gamer Gate thread. But, broad simplification:

1. Gamer Gate scandals begin
2. Movie Bob insults escapist community and gamers on twitter
3. Users begin to call for him to be fired, or at least censured.

I would like to point out that while there is overlap between people who go to the escapist and people who support #GamerGate, they are not one and the same as shown by the fact that I'm here. If you mean that his comments about the end of gamers meant that he hates everyone who plays videogames or identifies with them, well, that's not what he meant. He meant that gaming culture as it exists currently is becoming outmoded and being left behind as the world changes around them. It's also worth mentioning that he has said that talk of the end of gaming was overblown and unnecessarily inflammatory, although he, and I, believe that it was coming from a good place. As for George Bush, you can be right and be perceived as an asshole, and still be right.
