So I'm on 3-1 and in this level I'm supposed to rescue Sage Freke. This would be made much simpler if he was in his effing cell.

That's right, he's not in it.

I know I got the right key (the "Special key" behind the creepy minion dude with the glowing ball), and I got the right cell obviously, since the key unlocked it, but Sage Freke is no where to be found. All I got was an empty cell. I checked the Nexus and he isn't in there either.

I honestly don't know what to do. As my class is Royalty and I greatly leveled up in Magic and such, I REALLY need Sage Freke to teach me new spells.

I've Googled my problem and I never actually get any advice except that apparently it's a glitch.

Help please?

If it's a glitch, you'll probably have to re-load a previous save and see if he's there.
Otherwise, I can't really give you any advice other than you might have to restart the game.

I think you need Pure White.
Assuming you haven't progressed yet, just coax through World 3 and defeat the bosses (they're pretty easy) and make sure to kill them all in body form[footnote]But rescue Yuria the Witch before completing 3-2. Firestorm is invaluable for the Maneater fight.[/footnote]

Come back, and he should be there.

Craaap. Pure white World Tendency or Character Tendency? World Tendency is pretty white from what I've checked.
However, my soul tendency is pretty black. I killed off Miranda in her body form, and that basically caused my tendency to jump off a cliff.

World tendency, I'm pretty sure.

Kill the Fool's Idol (she's cake) then come back and check again. If it looks pretty white and isn't pure white, chances are that you're at +2/+3 on the tendency scale. Killing someone in body form causes it to jump a whole notch up, so you'll be in the perfect position.

Nasty, I don't think it's anything to do with world tendancy, doesn't say so in the guide book anyway.
It must just be a very bad glitch. If there's anyway of going into system memory and loading an old save I'd try that.

It has nothing to do with world tendency as I have rescued him without Pure White.

You'll just have to get Yuria, though can't remember if she can teach the same spells.

I checked, and you're right. So that leads me to this conclusion: it's most likely a glitch.

She can't. She specializes in dark destruction magic, so you'll get spells like Cursed Weapon and Firestorm[footnote]Which are far from bad, they just take some of your life/a lot of magic[/footnote], but you'll miss out on spells like Soul Ray and the various Cloud spells.

The game can be beaten without Freke, so you really shouldn't start over if you've gone all this way, but he is pretty helpful.

The man speaks the truth, my first playthrough I was a temple knight and didnt learn ANY spells, I rescued sage freke but he wouldnt teach me anything, because my magic level was too low. Of course I didnt know that so I never trained magic because nobody would teach me spells because I wouldn't train my magic.

Vicous cycle....is vicous.

..and you need pure white tendency to save the dude with the pole-arm, not freke!
..must be a glitch...

Hmm guess it is a glitch. But you know, the great thing about Demon's Souls is that once you beat it, you get to beat it again! And again! And again! And again! ...etc...

But the annoying thing about Demon Soul's is if it does glitch on something important like a trainer there is nothing you can do about it apart from soldier on without those spells or restart, which could be quite devastating.

Though I forgive it because it is such a good game.
