Feel free to ignore the next paragraph, it's a bit of a rant.

I know, I know, I'm late to the party and Demon's souls has been out for awhile, but having just got a PS3 my first inclination was to grab the game and start playing. Did some levels as a soldier, got my ass handed to me a couple of times, then decided to fiddle around with magic. And all I have to say is WOW. It's like a completely different, way easier game. Why risk getting chopped to bits by everything when you can shoot insta-kill light beams at it? Why carefully navigate between hordes of mages and dreglings when you can throw a giant storm at them and get free souls? Need more endurance? Not with all your protection spells. Want to use melee? Just grab a crescent weapon and an enchant and your good to go even WITH magic as your main stat, on top of fireballs and soul rays and poisons! Boss giving you trouble? Throw a poison cloud, hide behind a corner and watch his life slowly drain while you eat a sandwich.

What I'm trying to get at,besides the awesomeness of late-game weapons and slicing your way through things with glory. Is there any point in playing anything besides a mage, besides when a boss is immune to magic(4-1 is the devil).

TL;DR Does melee have any benefits over magic in Demon's souls.
