I had a dream a few years back. It might have been as long as about 5 years now. I still remember fragments of the dream(s) quite intensely.

I met a girl in the dream, a perfect fit in every way for me. We spent a lot of time together, and were quite close. I even remember a part of the dream where we were on IRC together. But something happened later on, I remember I had to walk a long way. I remember a stairway up to a temple or museum I walked to, I remember a long highway I walked along, which was curvy and with a big difference in elevation.

At the end I came to a party or something, only to realize she was there with someone else. She was with a friend of mine I used to know back then. I felt she wanted to explain things, but I woke up before I could ever know.

During the day after that dream, I composed a song to her. As a memory of what I experienced.

About a week later, I had a dream about her again. I met her at the train-station back where I used to live. No words were exchanged, but she hugged me, and I knew through nothing but feeling that she was and wanted to be with me. Then I woke up.
Quick! lets find a producer and turn this into a movie!!!

Once, I dreamt that goblin underneath the bed was drilling into my spinal column using a Black & Decker. That wasn't a happy dream.

I barely ever dream, though lately I've been dreaming quite frequently (dunno why). I never remember them, except for a brief period after I wake, I only remember that I remembered dreaming. Some of them were pleasant, some were odd and some were sad, but yeah, I can't actually remember them.

I have dreams, messed up dreams, awesome dreams, etc. Depressing dreams are no exception. I remember one from the other night where this girl I'm pretty much in love with was with me, hanging out, having fun, the usual. And it was a kind of happy I haven't felt for awhile. I woke up halfway through, and tried to force myself to finish that dream, but sleep never came, and neither did the dream. I wanted to punch a wall

I remember this one dream, where Martians started invading, and we fought them back, and we took their fighting machines, and we built our own, and we used them to invade Mars and wipe out the Martians. Then I got a job as a cybernetics test subject, and was rebuilt as a brain in a metal suit, constructed from one of the fighting machines. Then I started a cult of people who did the same thing, and then we wiped out all the humans and created an army of Cybermen. It was glorious. Then I woke up...

(Sorry about my abuse of the comma, people)

I usually have these awesome dreams where I can run very fast and jump very high and I fight Wolverine and things like that. Funny, cause I don't even read comics.

But sometimes I have a dream more or less like this:

I've posted this dream in a thread a while ago, but here goes:

Note: My GF is overseas, we've been together for 2 years, we've never met. At this point, we hadn't communicated in 2 weeks, since we'd both been busy.

I was laying in bed at about 6am (in the dream) with my eyes closed, and I heard this girl go 'Hey There...Know who this is?'. Understandably, it was her voice, so I said he name, I didn't want to open my eyes, I wasn't even sure why. But I heard her walk over and she climbed into my bed and straddled my back, starting to give me a back massage. She asked me how I was, and I said I missed her. I tried to turn my head and look at her, but she stopped me and kissed the back of my neck. I asked if she'd stay with me, and she said that she loved me and I'd see her soon. She wrapped her arms around me and kissed my neck again, saying how grateful she was for having me.

I woke up at about 7am, and the dream was so real I got really excited and was wondering when I could see her.
Then I realized it had only been a dream.
I bloody cried.

I win the thread. I died in my dream. Like i really died. I think i was leaning on my jugular while i slept and almost died... Let me explain.

Im in a room. Its small. All i know is the oxygen in here is running out. The outside is a HARD vacuum. There is no more time. I start to panic, accepting my own demise is imminant. I consider killing myself, will suffocation be painless? I dont want to die painfully. Before i reach a decision i slip into unconciousness. Im now passed out in my dream, in my dreamdream (INCEPTION :D) im in a lushious forest. Full of oxygen. I wander around it for a bit. I grow tired. Suddenly my arms are heavy, FIRE shoots up my jugular viens, like molten lead it sears me. I really felt this pain. It was so real... Suddenly it all fades to white. Everything is so soft... I see a white light in front of me, and basically all around me. Although there isnt any point of reference, i know im moving. Im moving toward the source of this light. Suddenly i jerk awake(like reality awake). Hard. Im hyperventilating, drenched in sweat, and my jugular is on fire. It sooths as my breathing returns to normal. I was terrified. I think i almost died.

I wrestled with my own mortality. I wasnt like "oh its a dream death". In my dream i was terrified. I had to accept i was going to die. I accepted it. It was kinda... hollow when it was a dream. You dont accept that and then just. Come out and it means nothing.

As some people had already mentioned I had two dreams was I feel happiness since I was in love with a girl (One dream I was in some fancy party and another hanging out with her in a city). Likewise I got depress when I woke up and even more depress when I read what that type of dream suppose to be in some dream theory website.
I also get annoy when I am depress in a dream. One dream I was upset cos I had a terrible illness and another when my bro died. I just had feeling sad and etc and then I woke up with my emotion shifted to normal.

I get those dreams rather often. Sometimes it ruins the whole day when I wake up and realize it wasn't true.

Usually they are about having fun, adventuring, perhaps mostly getting (back) together with a girl I happen to miss at the time. I have meaningful and fun conversations with people I haven't seen in a long time, usually in environments which only exist in my mind. Last time I won a load of money as well.

Closest I've come to a nightmare is a dream where I was in a dimly lighted world, on top of framed windows which extended to horizon and beyond. Through one window beneath me, I watched some bad guys from Turtles plotting a bank robbery or something. I moved a bit and suddenly a shark crashed through another window (which should have been on top of the same room as before, but there was an ocean instead) and bit most of my other leg right off. I woke up to that, but it wasn't as scary as it was funny.

Probably the most nightmarish more recent dream, two years ago, was about work. I drove a vehicle on fields for an average of 14 hours a day that summer, and you could sink and get stuck in some softer areas in the soil. Then you'd have to call for someone to pull your vehicle out. It was somewhat embarrassing and the distances were so great that you had to wait for up to two hours sometimes. So I had a few dreams where I sunk into the ground, with the little time I had to sleep. But that was work stress -related and therefore rather self-explanatory.

Never really having proper nightmares, at least as far as I know, it's impossible to know what they're like. But I must say it has been quite devastating sometimes to wake up happy from a dream, where I've solved my 99 problems, found happiness, love and prosperity. The first 5-10 seconds you think that really happened you're on top of the world, but then the awful reality creeps in and crushes you.

Note: this dream happened whilst I was in hospital following the worst event that's ever happened to me. basically I was tricked into thinking some guy might like me, only to be lead into the middle of nowhere and beaten down so hard by him and all his friends that i was there unconscious for an entire day before someone found me and got me to hospital.

I dreamt that I was lying in hospital (which i was at the time) when Ryan (the guy who tricked me) came in to see me. The details of this are hazy but he eventually wound up crying, saying he was sorry, that he loved me, and repeatedly kissing me. Now during the time he spent gaining my trust during the real events, I'd pretty much fallen in love with him, so I remember being very receptive to this idea in the dream.

Anyway, after I was back at school (in the dream), Ryan made a big show of leaving his old friends, getting them in trouble with both the school and the police, at the same time, then spent the whole day with me.

Later, we went back to his place and fell asleep together on his bed after some...stuff.

Then I woke up back in the hospital, alone...and promptly cried my eyes out.

Me and my friends became Conduits, formed our own Supervillain squad, and were killed by Cole Mcgrath because we made him feel redundant.

Shortly before I stopped having dreams or stopped remembering them or whatever, I had these recurring dreams where I was dying from some unnamed illness and nobody cared. Least of all me.
A lot of the time it'd end when I'd suddenly begin to feel my strength ebb and then fall to the floor. People would walk around me and I'd just get annoyed that I was causing an obstruction and my useless shitty muscles were too pathetic to bring me into a nice, quiet corner to wait for my breathing to stop.

Which honestly strikes me as more dully melancholic than anything. But a bunch of melodramatic teenage girls who overheard me describing them to my brother thought it was SO DEPRESSING OMG and they couldn't possibly be wrong.

I probably have a better example, I remember waking up crying a few times. You know, years and years ago. But I can't actually remember the dreams themselves too clearly.

Considering I usually get horibly murdered by close friends, family and love interests in my dreams, i'm kind of over it, it happens so often it doesnt even bother me anymore (is my sub concious trying to tell me something?). On the off occasion were i do get an absurd dream, like racing a 'nice lady' ancient greek style, I always realise its a dream while dreaming
