Any Descent 3 players here? I need some advice/help on how to assign the controls. I searched with google, and was less than impressed with what I've found, I'm sure the Escapist community could help me more.

First off, this game looks awesome. I just got it from GoG.

But I am having a hard time getting the controls down.... I wanna do what I see in the video!

I have the 360 adapter thingy, a Logitech (PS3 type) controller, and a keyboard/mouse (obviously).

What do you use, and please, for the love of God, let me know what your control schemes are. I have spent an hour trying to tailor the controller to use, but i am at wits end here. Sure, I could trial and error my way into the game, having to restart the training mission over and over another 20 times... but if someone could give me a layout to program in, I would be a happy man.

It's ridiculous that the default options lack full control, so if anyone could help me out, I would appreciate it.

EDIT: Yeah, my wits end only goes for about an hour. Ridicule me if you must, I probably deserve it. Lazy guy is lazy after all.

I used this thing you can get for a PC called a joystick. I also got a lot of motion sickness fromm Descent. I much prefer Freespace 2.

So, what your telling me is: You got sick from your stick of joy? : P

I think the last joystick I had was for a really old Atari...

On a side note, I also (coincidentally) bought Freespace 2 today, GoG is great. The control scheme is really easy to map also. It looks like I may just play that instead. Oh well, it's not the first time I have wasted $6. Freespace 2 does look to be one hell of a game so far.

Oh yes, and it has mods out the wazoo as well. I hope you already downloaded and installed the FS2_Open files. You can get the campaign from the original Freespace and port it into the Freespace 2 engine. Not to mention the fan created ships and campaigns.

Not sure there are enough buttons to comfortably play Descent3 on a controller. Good Joystick is really the way to go, or mouse and keyboard failing that.

You could make it playable but you would probably lose some manoeuvrability which would make the game much harder.
