Mwahahaha! It had to happen some time and now it has! You surely all know the format- you're stuck on a desert island for the rest of your life and can only pick 8 songs to last you for the rest of your life. You may also pick one book (excluding The Bible and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, which are already present on the island) and one non-essential luxury which must be inanimate and of no survival value (No consoles. Let's just assume that somewhere on the island there is a hidden cache of the greatest consoles and videogames ever made, enough to satisfy you for the rest of your life regardless of your taste in gaming. Oh and a Tv and PC.)

My List:

8: Sublime - What I Got
7: Weezer - Only In Dreams
6: Daft Punk - Around The World
5: I Heard It Through The Grapevine - Marvin Gaye
4: Lookin Out My Back Door - Creedence Clearwater Revival
3: Smashing Pumpkins - Soma
2: R.E.M. - The End Of The World As We Know It
1: The Eagles - Hotel California

Book:- The Complete Works Of Charles Dickens
Luxury:- A Lifetime's supply of Jack Daniels

... that's astonishingly hard. Now, no cheating everyone! And anyone that says 'ipod L0lz' for their luxury will find themselves facing harsh glares. And laser death.

EDIT: I'm changing my luxury to my Thunderbird bass plus a great big amp. Cheers zen, can't believe I nearly forgot my Bass!

Ozark Mountain Dardevils - If you wanta get to heaven (you've got to raise a little hell)
Smashmouth - All star
Marcy Playground - Sex and candy
Grateful Dead - Deep Elem Blues
Grateful Dead - Uncle John's Band
Meatloaf - Bat outa hell
Georgia Satellites - Keep your hands to yourself
Goo Goo Dolls - Ain't that unusual

Actually I could take one CD from any of these bands and be pretty happy.

Book - Wheel of Time if I could get it compiled, otherwise a good quantum mechanics text (bet I'd figure it out then)
Luxury - Wheeled cart to carry around compiled Wheel of Time, of course. Otherwise fishing gear. (Note that I'm assuming electricity is furnished.)

Hmm not that i'm for or against the Bible part but maybe have a Bible(or equal counter part for your belief structure.)...Anyway...

Games are covered already for a life time? Sweet i get 2 extra songs 1. Portal's "Still Alive" 2. Twisted Metal Black's "Paint It Black"(Rolling Stones) as high points.

Other than those...

1. The Devil went down to Georgia
2. No Doubt - Different People
3. Moonlight Shadow
4. Beatles - The Maxwell's Silver Hammer
5. Avenged Sevenfold - Bat Country
6. Sublime - Date Rape (It's actually anti-rape if you havn't heard it before.)
7. No Doubt - New
8. Robotech(Lynn Minmei) - We Will Win

Book:Hmm... does a book about how to survive on a desert island count? If not then the Zombie Survival Guide.. if not that ...a book of matches or as many comic books as permited.
Luxury: Company? (Female would be most welcome. [See song 6 about intentions toward a relationship if one were to occur.])

Songs (no order):
1. Brand New - Jesus Christ
2. Lies - Glen Hansard
3. Hide and Seek - Imogen Heap
4. Eels- Susans House
5. The Who - Baba O'Riley
6. Dragonforce - Through the Fire and Flames
7. The Beatles - Blackbird
8. Chevelle - The Red

Book: God's Debris by Scott Adams

Luxury: Acoustic Guitar

Easy. I'd spend all my time trying to play Dragonforce on my acoustic. Both parts. At the same time.
As for the ipods/mp3s good luck finding an outlet to charge it on once it dies. While we play our music on, you know...deserted island, giligan style cd record player jiggys made of coconuts and palm leaves

You already have internet access, so why would you need a print version?
You don't, actually. You've got an offline PC, since if you had the internet this whole thing would be made completely redundant. Th Pc's there so that you can play Civilisation, Command And Conquer, UT2004 etc.

Dang, I've only had CDs (or cassetes, or eight track tapes, or records) by seven of the bands other people listed, and I recognized less than thirty. Suddenly I feel even older!

I cannot choose 8 songs i have to many but if i had to maybe it would be:

Lovesong (Extended Mix) - The Cure
Jammin' - Bob Marley
Tainted Love (cover) - Marylin Manson
Anarchy In The UK - The Sex Pistols
A Little Drop Of Poison - Tom Waits
Going to a town - Rufus Wainwright
Jeepers Creepers - Louis Armstrong
Mad World - Gary Jules

That was hard and i missed out on so many.

Oh an Zen5887 you have a god damn awsome taste in music

Book would have to be "Alice's adventures in Wonderland and Through the looking glass" My copy has both original ideas.

8 Cds (In no particular order):
1. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son - Iron Maiden
2. Nocturnal - The Black Dahlia Murder
3. Leviathan - Mastodon
4. Reign in Blood - Slayer
5. Hatebreeder - Children of Bodom
6. Powerslave - Iron Maiden
7. The Price of Existence - All Shall Perish
8. Slaughter of the Soul - At the Gates

It's pretty obvious that I like Heavy Metal.

Book:
Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. I own the big book that contains all five books in one classy looking leather bound tome, so it counts as one book, but it's actually five.

For my random item:
A cd player with an extremely powerful battery, with battery life the length of the half life of Uranium 238.

4. The Prisoner - Iron Maiden
5. Back in Black - AC/DC
6. Still Alive - We all know who made that.
7. Voodoo Child - Jimi Hendrix
8. Rockin' all over the World - Status Quo

My book: Blackadder: The Whole Damn Dynasty
Luxury: Lifetime supply of Coke. Not Pepsi.

1. One Week - Barenaked Ladies
2. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles
3. Overkill - Colin Hay
4. Graffiti - Maximo Park
5. Mr. Blue Sky - E.L.O
6. Ashes - Embrace
7. Mr. Brightside - The Killers
8. Scar Tissue - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Book - I would have liked to take His Dark Materials or The Chronicles of Narnia, but they probably don't count as one book. So, it'll have to be Lord of the Rings.

Luxury - I suppose a cassette player and loads of story tapes would be cheating. Erm...enough pens and paper to last a life time.

Wow, that's some hard decision making.
