Hey,

I was wondering if anyone out there knows where I can get an office chair with NO wheels, preferably in the UK. I hate wheeled desk chairs, especially seeing as I have a wood floor, and its been surprisingly hard to find a desk chair without wheels.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some chairs come with wheels that are not built into the base and need to be put in when you are putting the chair together. Simply don't put in the wheels.

I bought this chair myself and I know the wheels need to be put in when your assembling the chair. Its a damn fine chair for 60 dollars.

After some googling, I've discovered that (in Dutch) these types of chairs aren't considered "deskchairs" but "workchairs" or "productionchairs" perhaps using these search criteria you'll be able to find some locally.

Simply leaving the wheels off as others suggested will kill that wood floor of yours. You'd have to find some way to pad the ends, and unless you've got the tools and skill to do it well, it will look ugly.

If you have one with wheels just remove the wheels. They are probably just screwed on so take out the screws and go to a diy store and fit some feet instead. If not just cut them off and put some feet on anyway

The base is usually plastic, but yes it will damage the floor. Heck even the wheeled chairs will damage wooden floors. Buy one of those plastic chair mats, they run around 30 bucks, but are worth it.

You can likely pull out the wheels on the chair you are using now. Get feet for the bottoms of it afterwards or large sticky felt pads.

Depending on your definition of 'desk chair', patio furniture can be a good alternative.

I bought a good outdoor chair from B&Q for my Mum to use at her computer desk (because she was getting back pains from her normal desk chair) and it's perfect for her needs.

You'd probably be hard pressed to find a 'desk chair' without wheels, so just find the chair that right for you irrespective of it's label, whether it be called a lawn chair, bar stool, library recliner or even a rocking chair.

Just think outside the box and look at all seating options (rather than just office furniture and desk chairs) and I'm sure you'll find something suitable.

EDIT: Also, the suggestions of using a normal desk chair without the wheels, whilst helpful, aren't really good suggestions as most chairs like that are designed to have wheels and move when you apply any kind of lateral force on them.

If you take the wheels off a normal desk chair, sooner or later it will snap in the middle if it can't easily roll in order to relieve lateral forces.

Chairs without wheels normally need 4 legs in each corner and a sturdier frame than a centrally supported desk chair.

If you're feel up to it, try going to antique/ flea markets. I had an wooden desk chair from the early '50s for about 5 years. Things are amazingly sturdy.

Have you tried IKEA? They might have some wheel-less chair. I have wooden floor and a wheeled chair, but I have got a plastic mat beneath the chair (bought at IKEA). Try also second hand stores, they might have something that is even a bit classy from time to time.
