Anyone else as hopelessly addicted to this game as I am? I've just TONS of games in my backlog I should be playing but I got this a week or so ago and simply cannot stop playing. It seems simple but there's just a stunning amount of depth underneath.

A review - http://zomgindie.com/review-desktop-dungeons/

Anyone with even a mild interest in roguelikes and dungeon crawling of any sort should take the seconds it takes to download this very free, and very awesome game.

Which you will find here - http://www.qcfdesign.com/?cat=20

To toot my own horn, I've unlocked all of the base classes and the goblin race. Beat my first challenge dungeon today. Pretty pumped.

I must say, it's fun as hell and one of the biggest productivity-killers since Minecraft. Nice to see a fellow enthusiast.

I love rogue-like games! I'm definitely going to have to avoid this, less my life be ruined again...

Wait until you unlock the factory and have to beat it with the wizard class...

Long time since my last game, hmmm...

Not bad, but it's a bit annoying at the same time. seems like something you could only play for short periods of time without putting a hand sized hole in your monitor.

Played it after reading this thread. I must admit, I don't get it. First of all, there's a big contradiction in its design. On one hand it encourages you to explore to find shrines and monsters that fit your level and class, but on the other hand it discourages it because exploration refills your health... when you don't need it to. Also, the game seems to randomly generate maps with no regard as to whether they are actually beatable or not. Played about 20 maps and only managed to beat one of them. Going through the readme file, the guy claims that being largely unbeatable is its appeal, but I'd call it a waste of time myself. It's like getting a boner playing custom 99-mine Minefield games and blowing yourself up. Unless I'm missing something huge, it's not a game for me.

Damn, I didn't know about this game before, but after reading this thread and downloading it, I spent the last 4 hours or so playing it, it's really addicting! I only beat 2 maps, but I'm having a lot of fun with it though. I really like the warlord class.

I've unlocked almost all of the classes. It's a pretty decent little game that stole about a week of my life

I think I'll give it a go, once I feel like I'm need a game like this.

Could someone tell about the audio of it? Does it have any music/sounds? Are they good? Needed? Adjustable/Disableable[footnote]What a wonderful word.[/footnote]?. What I'd need would be a game that I could play while listening to music in the background.

It might not be, and that's ok. It's almost like a strategy game to me really. Once I started looking at the hidden parts of the dungeon as resources and realized I only had so many to spare I started approaching each game very differently. I would say I've only ever gotten a few maps where I felt it was truly unbeatable. You can fight monsters higher level than you and win, it just takes a little table math to figure out if the bonus xp for beating them is worth the exploration it takes regen enough to kill them.

Might not be for you, but it's pure crack to me.

The sounds in this game, while nice, are 100% not needed. I regularly play it listening to tunes in the background. I am now, in fact.

...Rick Astley...on purpose.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it man. A pleasure to turn you on to this game.

How does it compare to Nethack or Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup?
It's simpler than those two by design. It's billed as a 10-15 dungeon crawl for little breaks between work here and there. But let me say, that despite being simpler there's a surprising amount of depth underneath with your health and mana regen being tied to the exploration of the map.

'Tis a rather fun game, but I think I prefer Dungeon Crawl a bit more. It just feels more personal.
