-Introduction-
If you are at all attached to the gamer community, there is no doubt that you have heard of Destiny.
On that note, if you heard of Destiny, you no doubt have heard of its controversy...ok, ok 'controversy' is kind of a grandiose term but I felt like 'flaws' wouldn't get the picture across enough. Here I'll talk about this game an-WAIT, before you hit that 'x' button you should know that Im not gonna sit here and try to say the game is "not what people think it is" or that it's "misunderstood". Im just here to offer the perspective of someone who plays the game yet recognizes what people say about it. Alright, lets begin!
Anyone who knows me knows I've been playing Destiny and clocking many hours into it. I was excited for this game, following its development, watching developer videos, conceptual videos prior to its release.
And like that we are to our first topic.
-What it was supposed to be.-
Now Im not alone here, I bet there are many people who were disappointed in what we got as opposed to what we were promised. "What were we promised though?" Glad you asked, we were promised an expansive world with many places to visit in a setting that is alive, an engaging story, and days of features and content. "What did we get though?" AH, glad you're taking the initiative. We got a few places to visit over and over again with nothing new or interesting happening, a story that feels watered down and boring (we'll talk about this later, actually after this topic), and days of features...the same features...over and over again. Needless to say, my hopes were toppled. We were promised a vastly greater, superior game than what we got and don't get me started on how the dlc was probably in the finished product, but taken out to sell later for profit.
-Story!-
Hopefully I dont need to tell anyone that the story was garbage. Predictable, unoriginal, and uninspired are a few adjectives that come to mind. However, I felt like there was more to the story. As we all know, sometime during development, Bungie's writer and creative director Joe Staten left the company. Alright alright, now we're talking semantics. I'm pretty sure it's safe to say Joe Staten left on a rather negative note and this no doubt has something to do with Destiny and its story. Maybe stuff was cut, maybe Staten, feeling jaded and betrayed, just up and left. We do know that this happened during or close to the final year of development of the game, so I am gathering that the story was already written and grounded by then right? Right, I know it feels like it, but it's not like they waited til the final year to write and incorporate the story, so my thought, most of it was indeed cut, as is the thought of most of the community. Now a lot of people are offering their thoughts or theories on what the story is supposed to be. Allow me to share with you my thoughts (taken from one of my YouTube comments), I'll spoiler it in case you dont care.
-Bungie, what the hell?-
Onto our last topic, the developers, the ones that purposefully dumbed down what was supposed to be a fantastic game for profit...wait was it them? I like to give Bungie the benefit of the doubt and blame the flaws on DRUM ROLL.....Activision! Ah, the usual suspects, the publisher, the person that sells the product. Here is how I think it went down. SCENE, Bungie offices, 1 year prior to Destiny's release! ENTER STAGE LEFT, Activision Suit! *applause*. ACTION!
Suit- Heya Mr. Jones, how goes the game, what was it called? Fate?
Jason Jones- Uhhh, you mean Destiny, right?
Suit- Right right, that one.
Jason Jones- It's going good, I believe we have a real groundbreaking game, especially for next gen.
Suit- Thats great news! But we looked at next year and guess what?
Jason Jones- What?
Suit- Destiny is being released with no competition!
Jason Jones- Oh ok, is there anything else.
Suit- Yup yup yup, seeing as it's being release unopposed, we need to get a bigger audience by dumbing down the story. Oh also cut most the content out, we'll release it later as dlc and make lots of money seeing as we dont need to try hard cause of uncontested release.
Jason Jones- Wait hold on, you can't do that, this is our game.
Suit- Well according to the contract you signed...WE CAN *que comically large magnifying glass
aaaaaand CUT. So, thats basically what I thought happened. As we know, Bungie said Destiny was a game that was supposed to last a decade, but just only a few months after its release, Bungie said they were working on Destiny 2. Now, Destiny 2 is most probably the start of Activisions attempt at another same same ruined cash-grab series like CoD. I like to be on the optimistic side though and believe Bungie scrambling to make a Destiny 2 because they now they messed up, because they wanted to make the game they promised knowing full well that the first go around was a f*ck up.
So, your thoughts?

The Traveler is an entity that promotes and accelerates evolution amongst a planets inhabitants (golden age) however it is sped up and unnatural so it eventually leads to downfall and destruction. It's said the Traveler had visited many other systems. Maybe the Vex, Hive, Fallen, and Cabal were groups that had been previously been visited by the Traveler advancing their civilizations but ultimately leading to their undoing. At that point, having nothing left, the Vex, Hive, Cabal, and Fallen decided to relentlessly pursue the Traveler in a fit of revenge or to prevent it from happening to any other planet. This could also explain why the Hive, Vex, Cabal, and Fallen fight amongst each other as well. Example, the Traveler visited the Fallen home-world and acted much like it did on Earth where the 'Darkness' of that time consisted only of the Vex, Hive, and/or Cabal.
