I'm looking for something that I can take apart and reassemble. The repetitive action is soothing. I'm currently in Halls at Uni, so no firearms of any sort.

What to carry around? depends on whats your bag, you mechanically inclined, electronics your thing, or you like tech toys? Not really knowing what your talking about I'll recommend a lawn sprinkler, not many parts you can lose, and to check that its working no chance of frying it or yourself if you have missed something. lol.

Bicycle parts!

Learn 'em, someone's always, always got a broken bike at uni. Learn to fix them and you get to play with taking stuff apart and make money at the same time...

An engine! :)
They're fun to take apart.
Or be more productive and build yourself a computer.

I used to do robotics kits but soldering irons aren't allowed under the strict rules.

Buy a set of Bucky Balls (tiny magnetic metal balls, one set is about 216 balls). They are fun to shape and mold and throw against things. I spent hours just messing with the damned things when I first got them.

A computer is a good idea. I built myself a Desktop a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Maybe I should look into replacing some of the older parts.
