I wouldn't say that deus ex was a terrible game, It's just that i don't think it could compare to the first, by any measure.
am i the only person who thought this?
Why didn't I like it (im not sure)?
Does anyone expect better from deus ex 3?

I sure don't

Uhm.. I loved Invisible War personally, it had one of the best (if not the best) cyberpunk stories ever in a videogame. I expect DX3 to have an equally awesome story and a bit more refined and varied gameplay, then I'll be happy.

Did you ever play the first?

OT: Human Revolution isn't being done by the guys that did Invisible War, and all previews of it have been exceptionally positive.

Oh, and aren't we like 6 years late for this DX vs. IW discussion?

I liked Deux Ex Invisible War. Granted, it wasn't nearly as deep as Deus Ex, but it was tons more polished, and the shooting and leveling up was greatly improved.

I look forward to the third. Great as the first one was at its time, it doesn't seem to have aged well for me.
What do you mean the leveling was improved!? i remember the pistol becoming my most powerful weapon by far, cept when fighting bots.
SOOOO much fun

Invisible War isn't a bad game at all. It's just not as deep as the original, which is certainly something to be upset about but it's a fine game by it's own merits.

Yes, I did play the first one, and IW's story was a lot better in my opinion, deeper, more ideologically grey, with a more impactful ending and much more "believable" than DX1's conspiracy hysteria.

I haven't seen anything substantial for the third installment of the series. But, without Warren Spector's involvement I'm not getting terribly excited.

Edit: OT: I was disappointed by Invisible War for being shallow and having console-esque constrols.

The game play was apparently the strong point of the second, the way the plot is told to you, characters explained and world, not so much.

But I haven't played it, so this is just what I've heard.

Well...I have a gut feeling that SE is going to screw things over.

its going to be like when the original fans of FO felt pissed at Bethesda's version of FO

Invisible Wars was... decent.

Problem was that it was being held up as a sequel to one of the most beloved PC classics of all time, and to those kinda high standards decent just doesn't do.

Plus it felt sloppy as hell, the combat was awkward and stilted, the level design simplistic, and the options nearly all irrelevant. There's a reason whenever the 'consolization' theme pops up Invisible Wars is nearly always held up as the poster child; It just didn't work well. At all. And the compromises the developers had to make to force this game to work on the Xbox show in nearly every element from the subdued visuals to the absolutely miniscule levels and plethora of loading screens.

Compared to Deus Ex and it's massive levels, tons of character options, and brilliant design it just doesn't hold up.

However to be fair Invisible Wars did one thing, and only one thing, better than the original game and that is the voice acting. Beyond that though... meh! It wasn't terrible, it was just a forgettable bland sequel which most people would have forgotten for now were it not for the fact it's a sequel to Deux friggin' Ex!

I have very little hope for the new game either I might add.

Well, if DX3 is better than DX1 I might like it, although that might not be hard, as I thought DX1 was a pile of rancid donkey droppings. I've never played the second though, so I can't make a judgement call on that.

It's not bad, but a massive step down from the first. A masterpiece compared to Project Snowblind though.

Deus Ex invisible War was to the first Deus Ex as Army of Darkness was to evil Dead 2, It was a good game overal, but was mainly overshadowed by the previous rendition of the series.

As to Deus Ex Human Revolution, I want it to be good, but I don't know since it's original creators are not working on it.

I thought it was good, and I played it right after Deus Ex.
It just had a few major design flaws in my opinion, like having the same ammo for all weapons. It also improved many areas though, such as the skills being more streamlined, no more "swimming" skills which were pretty much useless as seen in Deus Ex.

Overall I'd say Deus Ex was a 9/10 game while Invisible war was a 8.5/10. It only ever got a bad rep because people had high expectations. Rather than being a direct upgrade it was more of a side grade with the increased polish at the expense of content.

They crummyfied the weapons system, SCREWED over the skills system, took most of the fun out of augs, cartoonified the guns, the main character was barely relatable, you spent half the game in this stupid smog, Greasl fighting WTF?, compared to the epicness of the first one the storyline was a tourist pamphlet. BUT POSSIBLY THE WORST THING OF ALL THAT THEY DID WAS MAKE IT CONSOLE FRIENDLY. EEEEEH (i missed the good aiming system)
