Well primarily they should work from Deus Ex 1, you know the best one in the series...
So we don't get another "almost there" game, all of them should have been one up and yet here we are discussing number 4 with improvements still being wishful thinking.

Story wise I would just overwrite Invisible War, that shit didn't do anything of significance anyway.

Was i the only one who thought pretty much ALL the augs in HR were useful in some way?

Make the xp system more balanced. By the end of the game you could have pretty much maxed out everything. Make it like the first where it was either one or the other. Also make it just as viable to be aggressive/ no stealth. You got WAY more xp for being stealthy.

Maybe bring back the skills too ^_^
Perhaps we played a different game. I ran out of useful augs halfway through the game and was left with useless hacking mods I didn't need because hacking was always easy.

I just want more Human Revolutions with better boss battles and an ending that gives character closure. A direct sequel to HR with me involved would be great.

Yes, it would be bees knees.

How about a game that's less shit than Invisible War, and a game that's actually a fucking Action-RPG hybrid, not an Action game with RPG elements like Human revolutions.

But we won't get something like that in this day and age, so it's best to let Deus Ex go, just like Thief.

I kind of want the skills from the first game, but not as rediculous. Let me level up firearms, but not handguns and sniper rifles seperately. Still keep some of the tech stuff though. I still think HR is the best one in the series, and they should fiddle with that if they make a new one.

Firstly: LESS GODDAMN SHITTY BOSS FIGHTS.

...that's it really.
You know, I wonder why they even bothered outsourcing the bosses. The one 'boss' encounter in The Missing Link is how it should've always been in the first place.
They made an apology, stating that the deadline was closing in. You can read about it here [http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/03/07/deus-ex-human-revolution-designer-on-boss-fights-we-are-truly-sorry/].

OT: The guys from spoiler warning [http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=15303] had an idea of what next biblical figure they should use. Basically, after playing as Jezus and Adam in the previous games, this time you're playing as Moses, who is raized in a position of power in the Illuminati, only to rebel against them and destroying them. In doing so, you accidentally create majestic 12, setting up the plot of the original deus ex.

Alternatively, I heard some people say that Deus Ex shouldn't really concern itself with fitting into the existing timeline, but rather have each Deus Ex be a new, different take on the cyberpunk setting, which would allow the devs to use whatever sci-fi tech they want without screwing up the timeline.

A real option for a pacifist run... apology notwithstanding (though accepted and understood. Still...), those mandatory boss fights in Human Revolution really pissed me off.
I even managed a pacifist run in Invisible War. The game may have been designed to discourage it, but at least it was still possible.

I've only really played HR, which I loved, but I echo more levels, more like Detroit and Hengsha and fewer like Montreal and Panchaea, and non-shit boss fights that can be defeated in the same variety of ways that the developers allow you to play the rest of the game.

Deus Ex 4? What about Deus Ex 3?

Eh, I don't even know if they could even pull one off. All I really want is those levels that the devs removed from HR. Upper Hengsha and Montreal! :D

I would like a return to the setting as established in the original Deus Ex. Imo, the original Deus Ex nailed the cyberpunk setting. It was just modern enough to feel futuristic but it was still familiar and you visited places that felt real. I think a lot of it may have had to do with the dark, dank, depressing nature of all the levels. Subway tunnels filled with dying plague victims, rat-infested, decrepit looking buildings... man Deus Ex was so fucking awesome.

Oh yeah, and bring back a melee weapon that doesn't take energy to use. need moar baton

I'd rather see the series die. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fanboy of the original Deus Ex, I was quite fond of Human Revolution, and despite the harsh criticism I tend to direct toward Invisible War it wasn't a bad game (just a disappointing sequel). I guarantee the original Deus Ex has always had (and will always have) a spot in my top-3 whenever someone posts a "list your favorite games!" topic here.

The reason I want it to die is because I don't want it to get stale. What made the first one so great to me was the story. I've always been a big fan of conspiracy theories (they amuse the hell out of me), so the way that Deus Ex managed to weave together many different conspiracies and urban legends into a single, coherent plot has always fascinated me.

While Invisible War and Human Revolution tried to follow in the footsteps of the original game with weaving conspiracies into the mix, they ultimately fell flat to me. Invisible War opted to go the route of fairly generic science fiction storytelling while Human Revolution went for corporate espionage and civil unrest with the occasional nod to various conspiracy theories (like the e-mails from Illuminati members scattered around the offices in Montreal). It wasn't like the original game where nearly everything was grounded within a real-world conspiracy theory or urban legend.

The problem is that the original game was a little bit too comprehensive. It's no longer a surprise to players to find out that the Illuminati and Majestic-12 totally exist and are pulling the world's strings, for example, because it's already been established. Black helicopters, alien autopsies, men in black, freakin' alligators in the sewers and chupicabra? All covered. Where do you go from there to keep things fresh? This is why, frankly, I feel like Deus Ex should have been a standalone title rather than sequel fodder.

So I can't speak for anyone else, but for me anyway, I highly doubt another Deus Ex game would be able to capture what it was that made the first game so special to me. It's to the point now where I kind of wish they'd simply stop trying to, and create a new IP with Human Revolution's gameplay mechanics instead rather than turning Deus Ex into another series with yearly sequels.

It won't get stale. Deus Ex is not a game that you can design in less than 3 years and hope that it will be successful. Developers know it and the publishers know it. It's a franchise that needs time. Just like GTA for example. If they fuck it up they can't fix it. And the whole thing dies for another 10 years. They have a winning formula now. They will be foolish not to make another one. And they know what they need to improve. I bet the next one will be great.

The ability to play a non-stealth character. I dislike dying in three shots with all the durability upgrades. I feel like Halo hit the sweet-spot of game character durability.
Melee weapons.
A character who doesn't look and sound like a total douche.

Except it already has gotten stale to me. Don't get me wrong here, I liked Human Revolution. It was a fun game, and a don't regret my day-1 purchase.

BUT

I found it to be a completely disappointing entry to the Deus Ex storyline because, like I mentioned in my post, it was missing the key ingredient that made the original Deus Ex special to me. There are no surprises left. While the gameplay mechanics and visual style were solid, the story and characters - to me anyway - were a pretty far cry from being a 'winning formula.'

Trust me, I hope I'm wrong - I don't want to be right here... but I feel like the thing that made Deus Ex special to me just can't happen again within the same series. I agree with you, I bet the next game will be a great game - but I fully expect it to be a disappointing Deus Ex game in the same way that Human Revolution was to me a disappointing Deus Ex game while simultaneously being one of my favorite games of that year.

If they were to make another one, I would prefer a more restrictive Augmentation system. Like in the original Deus Ex, where you had to choose an aug and stick with it, and them level that up. Failing that, a mass effect 3 style either/or option. I mean, if you do a pure stealth pacificst run, you will max out all the augs you need for the rest of the game around about Detroit part 2.

Also (and this most certainly wont happen this gen) better enemy AI. I dont want enemies who are all 'hey, somebody there?', wait ten seconds, then go back on patrol, completely oblibvious to the fact that all of his buddies in the area have vanished, because they're piled up unconscious in the bathroom. While I realise that this would make stealth/pacifist runs maddeningly frustrating, I think it'd allow for more dynamic stealthing in the game.

Yeah the hacking mods were not so great. But faster sprint, higher jumping, being able to fall forever, more health, stable aiming etc were all useful in some way ^_^

I chose the ending where:

You destroyed Panchaea so how are you still alive...?

OT: The 25 years between Deus Ex: HR and Deus Ex provide ample time and opportunity to create more engaging stories. I would love to play a game where we see the world slowly transitioning from the mechanical to nano augmentations. As for protagonist, it'd be cool to play as an early Adam Jensen clone.

Deus Ex is a finished series. We know how it ends. We know how it came to be. Human Revolution was just a prequel. Its like Mass Effect 3's Leviathan DLC.
ugh, no no no no and no. HR is not a direct prequel to DX1, did you even play HR?.

I doubt we'll hear anything any-time soon as there are other projects that are being worked on. I really want the next one to be slightly more original instead of ripping-off it's predecessors.
