If it's simply during the loading screen and doesn't make it last longer than it should in anyway, I could care less. You can't exactly break immersion more with a loading screen, so if I was to have the ad anywhere that would be where it'd go.

I really don't see the point in all the bitching about this.
Unless of course the loading screens were purposefully made this way so adverts could be displayed for a "healthy" length of time.
It had long loading screens to start with, that was really my only complaint about the game aside from the bosses.

Just seems like the same "given us more money" mentality a lot of companies have been displaying recently. I'd like to see their reasoning behind this.
You (and not just YOU, but others here) realize that video game companies and employees are there to make MONEY, right?

I mean, SERIOUSLY...

You folks don't ***** when a commercial comes on between a TV show...so why now?
IT'S A DAMN LOADING SCREEN!

It's not like one of the enemy in the game is shooting you and then, while rushing you, screws out:
OMG, I SAVED A BUNCH OF MONEY BY SWITCHING OVER TO GEICO!!!!
*Blargah...-deathSOUND-*

...eh...
A game is more the equivalent of buying a TV show on DVD, there are no ads because you paid for the show. You paid for this game, therefore there should be no ads.

We knew that they were going to put these ads in for months now, I mean, the empty spots for them were there already. If you wanted to vote with your wallet, you should have bothered to stay on the up and up.

I'm just wondering why they waited so long in the first place.
Possibly, to avoid bad reviews.

They may not interrupt the show, as on TV, but the DVDs have ads in my experience.

Some do and if they are unskippable then that is also wrong. Most people skip them though but with ads on loading screens, that is like commercial breaks. So comparing tv shows on a free network (that can be picked up on an antenna) to a game you paid for is invalid.

Example: I watch Star Trek TNG on Fox, I get ads. I watch it on DVD, I do not and the reason is because on DVD I paid for the show.

Nah, what I meant was that the loading screen times were intentionally made to be long so they could put in adverts like this at later dates.

Sorry, thought I'd fix that for you before it drove me completely and untterly insane.

OT don't take it out on the game guys. It's not the devs fault that Square Enix are being money grabbing bastards in this instance.

In fact, who allowed this to happen? Ion Storm & Eidos eh? Good to know. Names worth remembering to blacklist in the future. Again, am very grateful to The Escapist for this warning. Was actually considering giving Deus Ex a try.
Again I'm fairly certain that the decision is down to the publisher, not the developers. So cut Eidos some slack.

It hardly matters. The loading screens don't exactly 'augment' my enjoyment of it [small](see what I did there?)[/small], so nothing is lost. I'm still not buying the blu ray Star Wars. Lucas has had enough of my moneys.

I see this has annoyed a lot of people. Why? It's a loading screen. Did you actually enjoy the strip of orange-yellow that this advert is hiding? If it's not everywhere in the game than I don't give a shit. If it gives them more money for nothing then good for them, they might use it to make another decent game. I doubt it but a little hope never hurt.

If you can't see by now (page 3) why people are annoyed, then you should re-read the thread.

The Final Fantasy XXVII poster that was in the game was petty funny. A good example of an ad that doesn't break the experience. This here, however, is on pretty much on the exact opposite end of the spectrum. Do not want. (/never asked for this)

The PC version doesn't have these, at least not yet. Honestly, to put these in after the fact is just plain dishonest. I wouldn't expect to buy any other product and then arrive home one day to find it covered in advertisements from the manufacturer. Not only that, they basically force you to you update it.

It wouldn't bother me that much if it was disclosed from the start, because then we could avoid buying it but putting them in after is a huge cheat.

Has there been any patches for Deus Ex so far?
Getting my copy in a week or something, and if not I'll just play it in offline mode to avoid those damn commersials.

Want to destroy the artistic quality of the game you're making?
Throw in random advertisements. Worse, throw them in AFTER the customer has bought the game.

The practice is tasteless, annoying and disrespectful.
It's like trying to "improve" the Mona Lisa years later by adding a Pepsi sign to the background.

If I go back to Deus Ex: Human Revolution later when I feel like playing it again, I'm definitely downloading some mods to overwrite the ads.

If they want to advertise to me without my consent on MY MACHINE, they have to give me something in return.

Up to this point Deus Ex was in every aspect a very stylish game. Call it bitching if you like, but this breaks that style. I can sort of respect their right to sell adspace in their game (although it feels a bit like coming to your home and sticking an ad on a shirt you'd already bought), but this is an unforgivably lazy way to go about it.

ah.... this means a new era.

and now - gamers stand before a choice. will they accept this, so it becomes the norm, or they wont, and this idea will be scratched. choose, now.

yeah, i know the same thing happens with tv. you know why? because it has becomed the norm. almost every tv station does it.
dont let that happen with games ffs!
i mean, subtle billboards during game, ok - stupid but ok. but this?

Yes, this.
It's not their game after you buy it. It's your game running on your computer stored on your hard drive drive utilizing your internet connection.

You can substitute computer for console as it may apply.
