ZOMG!!! this game will be easily GOTY this year. My friends, I have not been impressed by any game since Deus Ex HR back in 2011. and have not played any game after 2011 that is better than Deus Ex HR and this game might surpass it. if so then it will be best Deus Ex since original. its GOAT franchise imo

How many GOTY's can there possibly be?

As for the trailer... it's a story trailer. It's exactly what everyone has expected since the game was announced. What little game in it looks exactly like the first modern Dues Ex, which is great, but exactly what we all expected.

I'm looking forward to it, but I don't think there's any reason to soil myself with glee just yet.

As many as Manliness Dictates!

Personally, I never liked Dues Ex, I thought HR was weak, and disjointed. Especially when it came to gameplay, because if you wanted to be super stealth man and put all your talents into being sneaky, then you got butt fucked by every boss because boss fights.

Too many of these stealth or shooty games fall flat because they never balance the game for both options. You almost always come across something that punishes you for not going the opposite path you actually chose.

I thought you said Shadow Warrior 2 was going to be game of the year.

Or was it Quantum Break?

Or Doom?

Or...

Oh man, that was awesome.

It's hard to consider myself a fan of Deus Ex having played but not finished the first and Human Revolution (And loving HR), although I'll probably finish Human Revolution before this one comes out.

Quick question, do I have to play the first one? I tried it and it's good, I can definitely see how it was groundbreaking for it's time but I find it kinda difficult to get through; I intend on finishing it after I finish HR because I got this weird obsessive compulsive desire that says I should but frankly, I don't like playing it, is it really required viewing?

Off course you don't have to. Both of the new Dues Ex games happen well before the original games.

As opposed to the other GOTY games you mentioned, like Doom, Shadow Warrior 2, whatever else seems to be the manliest of manly things that ever graced us with a "pure SP shooter" style- yaddah yaddah. HUEGH

OT: Trailer could've been a bit shorter I think, so we can have less of Gavely McGruff talking bout everything he can do, instead of us finding out for ourselves. I need to play Human Revolution eventually...

WOW OMG HYPE HYPE!

I bet it'll be almost as good as Quantum Break!

Because that turned out to be super manly awesome GOTY fun times, just like you said it would be!

What was your favourite part? Mine was the bit where he non-lethally cleared out an entire room with one seeker-taser ability that he didn't even need to aim. I hope there's also another ability where you press one button to instantly knock out every enemy in the level. That would be so badass.

Man I love this man's threads. Truly hype machine and shut down everything else, really entertaining reads.

I think this will be a top game. I liked Human revolution, even the things that were criticized about it (yes, even the boss fights). So I'm quite stoked about this. That trailer was boring as shit though, what is up with that gravelly narrative for 6 minutes, geez. That trailer voice should go for 1 minute, tops. Still gonna be an awesome game though.

Doom's single player is also looking good, too bad about the multi. And Quantum Break, well I'm just gonna take a break from that (god I'm so funny) no chance I'm getting an XONE for that, or willing putting any money down thru windows store, let alone for a broken port.

Well, Witcher 3 alone won 251 GotY awards, so the answer is - a lot.

As for DE:MD, it looks interesting, but I hated the way DE:HR played, so I'm unsure how to feel about this.

My friend, it is major improvement over HR. its level design is much bigger, its AI is wastly improved, shooting too.

they are not doing more changes because they dont want it to become another Invisible wars.

I liked the trailer, at least it was intriguing and how much I wish the world was used in a better game.

It feels like there is something wrong with me when the setting is the most thought out cyberpunk distopian future the industry has (I should be all over it), yet actually playing it didn't grab me at all. Maybe it was the limited charges for skills, maybe it was the 1st person stealth mechanics, but I really didn't enjoy my time with it and I am not going to return for the next one.

No, you don't have to play the original games. Aside from some easter egg references to those games, a few subtle plot elements (the shadowy conspiracy groups controlling the world from the darkness thing), it's basically it's own game. Feel free to enjoy Human Revolution all by itself, which I highly recommend. The ending is a little....eh, to be honest. But I found the game to be great.

This is one of those rare times that I'm actually with you Brain-Cell.

Looks like it plays like a dream. Also, aside from that embarrassing "claw popping" beat in the chopper (the dialogue would have "popped" more if he'd delivered it dead pan), it seems less dumb than it has in the past too. I'll be keeping my eye on this bad boy. Human Revolution Directors Cut was one of my favorite gaming experiences of last gen. This looks like it could deliver at least as well as that one did.

*edit*
I'm also with Ezekiel in it's lazy design though. I don't mind having another experience that may only be marginally better than Human Revolution, Gameplay-wise at least (It seems this series' literary merit drops more and more with each installment).

We could have gotten more though, considering where this game and Human Revolution stand next to the original in terms of the level of game play nuance. Sure Human Revolution played more gracefully than both it's predecessors, but the amount of gameplay nuance and quality of story/character has certainly dipped (or at the very least stagnated).

I don't know Invisible Wars and I don't care. Human Revolution didn't play that well, and Eidos will do almost nothing to address its problems because people aren't critical enough. Especially reviewers, who try to be objective but hardly have opinions or preferences of their own that they can share professionally, and who provide insufficient information in place of sharp criticisms and personal bias. So those reviewers praise mediocre but functional design (if it has high production value and the whole is more or less satisfactory) and the developers don't get the constructive criticisms they need. I find user opinions like the ones shared in this thread more insightful. The devs just copy a formula instead of dissecting it and seeing what could be replaced or done better, and we get to play the same games forever. The size of the maps is the least of my concerns.
you know the old saying my friend. "dont fix if aint broken"

HR was masterpiece and all they need to do is to make redefine version. they are even improving boss battles which was biggest complain of HR.

Looks great to me. Really like the direction they're taking the story in, and think that the acknowledgement of the gameplay styles & advances are reassuring.

The only thing I hope - and by God I hope this wholeheartedly with this game and any more "choice" based games we see - is that you're allowed to let your style evolve and fit organically as you playthrough.

I'm sick of being punished if I either 1) play a certain way (Human Revolution - e.g. if you killed you get less XP; or 2) if I deviate from a certain way of playing - e.g. rewards, achievements or story points missed if I play stealthy in one section, lethal in another. Mass Effect is a good example of this, with Paragon/Renagade options not available if you don't play that way for earlier sections.

I want to go with what feels right for each situation; I want to be able to try a bit of stealth, try a bit of violence, and view each situation as an isolated thing which I deal with as I see fit. I don't want to be thinking "Ah, well he'a a twat, so I want to kill him. But if I do I'll lose X amount of XP, and likely close off X part of the game". Choices should have natural concequences all round, and both lethal or stealth options should evolve naturally (I'd like to see killing someone open up side quests which sparing them wouldn't. Side quests with good, rewarding conclusions etc).

Modern AAA games cost stupid amounts of money to make, so they go with safe, proven franchises and game designs that will guarantee a return on investment by appealing to the broadest audience possible It's the same reason why Hollywood blockbusters are all so formulaic.

well in the directors cut they altered the boss fights so stealth characters were viable

that said i enjoyed and disliked the trailer, gave a lot of info and gave away specific mission details

Calm down, OP. And take a step off the hype train.

I know it can be difficult, but save it all for when you've actually got your hands on the game.
