Yeah no, I'm with Square Enix on this one.

I've never met anyone who didn't use a jailbroken to get free music, apps, etc.

Besides, its kinda funny.
So if I customise my PC to run more effectively and to my liking, I shouldn't be allowed to play games and other media on it?

Because that's effectively what you've said, that anyone who custom builds their PC then runs Linux/Ubuntu on it shouldn't be allowed media... regardless of if they've paid for it or not?
You wanna make a PC comparison then you should compare it to buying a Mac.

You can get rid of the OS but your not going to get support or anything for Mac software, that's your choice.

Can they still do a stealth pacifist playthrough?
Try doing a completely stealth/pacifistic playthrough of Human Revelations.

Back from trying yet? Because with the rampant idiocy that ran behind that game (outsourcing boss fights... really?!), I wouldn't be surprised if a similar effect had struck the IOS title.

Good thing it apparently got fixed though. Maybe next Square will decide to actually fix the original Human Revelation, instead of shitting all over the original adopters by forcing them to pay for a "Director's Cut".
The director's cut just came with all the DLC, boss fights intact.

Wrong buddy, unless you somehow magically played the game before it's release, and if that's true then why not share some of your other infinite knowledge, hm?
Well I be damned, a directors cut that adds things. In my infinite knowledge of the future I know that I won't care because I bought Deus Ex: Human Revolution several years ago... for half price. Spoiler: Everybody dies when Adam Jensen is augmented into Mecha-Godzilla.

I don't know the percentage of users that jailbreak their device to pirate, but the moment you're screwing over even one of your paying customers you're in the wrong.

Idiotic move Square Enix.
No, no, this is even more hilarious. It doesn't even inconvenience the pirates, so EVERY person hit by this DRM is a legitimate, paying customer.

That was a dick move. People should be able to mod the devices that the payed for. And of course it's fixed. So it wasn't only a dick move, it was a futile dick move.
I believe a futile dick move is the official definition of the DRM protection :)

Just as I thought. This the real bullshit reason they made it an iOS exclusive: because it's easy to side load apps onto android. Oh noes, every one who wants control over their hardware and software is clearly a pirate. I see they patched it after realizing how short sighted and stupid it is kill apps people paid for.

Also, it's not like a shit ton of people jail break their i-devices or something /sarcasm
You know what? i think you might just have answered a question ive been asking myself for a while; Why is FFT:War of the Lions worldwide on IoS but Japan only on Android? maybe Squeenix are afraid of teh dreaded android pirates!
Statistically, people are more likely to pay for apps on iOS than they are for Android. That's why there are more iOS exclusive games, because they're more likely to make money off the paid apps than putting out an add supported version and dealing with people who quickly crack the paid version of an app or simply block adds altogether. Its still bullshit though. I doubt its hard to port apps and there's no reason legitimate buyers should be left out because a few pirates

So what? Your point is you know people who jailbreak their iphones to pirate so everyone who jailbreaks must be a pirate? Well clearly, you must be a well traveled man to have met every single person who jailbroke their phone. I happen to have met several who did it just so they could add tweaks to the OS

There's something just deliciously humorous about a Deus Ex game that doesn't support physical modding.

Such bullshit. Imagine if you had a game that wouldn't start because it detected you had an ISO mounting program on your PC? In that case, at least you could uninstall the program.

Don't give a shit what you do with it. I was saying the comparison between an iphone and a computer assembled by parts is invalid.
Now I'm confused about your point. Both a pc and an iphone are both just computers. The hardware is just a detail. Square Enix punished people for having custom software. Do you think that is wrong or not?

I can't imagine using an unrooted device. Android has a way to turn on and off your root (for things like over the air updates which detect roots and kill them). That would be a way around this if you really wanted to buy a legal copy. Would be surprised if iOS didn't have a similar app.

Why the hell would game developers do this? It's none of their concern if a device has been jailbroken..
It's rather funny, cracking teams often do things like this because it's like a race, who can get the crack out faster than anyone else. Try to find a small title with no DRM, it's hard as hell. Remember The Witcher 2? Had no drm on the GoG version, and that version barely made it to the Pirate Bay, while the DRM version did, and was cracked of course.

A lot of the time it's not even about getting to play games for free (For the warrez teams), but just getting the prestige. Hell, a lot of torrents lately say "Like the game? Buy it!" at the bottom.

(From what I understand, I might just be wildly miss-informed)
What does this has to do with devs restricting their game for jailbroken devices?

I'm not sure if you realize that is exactly what happened if you tried play certain securom games a few years back. Obviously if you have a ghost drive on your PC you are a dirty pirate/cheater in Battlefield 2, the online game with cd keys tied to your account. I know other DRM did it as well.

CD drives are loud, why would I want to have the cd for the game that is already installed left in a drive to verify I own the game that I needed to register a CD-key to an email account to play online.

I don't even own anything beyond my smartphone, I'd never play a damn tablet Deus Ex, but really, fuck them. Fuck them up their stupid asses.

This only encourages piracy. As in, I encourage people to pirate their shit.

I think if you're going to buy into a device which is very clearly intended to be a closed system that you should not be surprised that there will be consequences when breaking that system.

If you don't like the philosophy of the closed system, then don't buy it. No one forced you to get an iphone.
It's hardware a customer pays for. Aside from a service like phone or net, they have no right to tell you how to use your device. Your opinion is that people don't own new technology.

Do you really want the PC to be the only open device? Because after 20 years, it's still the only one.

When did kids get to be such corporatists? I never figured younger gamers would be so conservative.

i think its enraging that we even have to jailbreak the decvice to begin with. such features should have been available without any extra effort, and even when we ourself get what should have been in the first place you punish us? that like punching a guy for giving you money.
Whoever came up with this idea should be charged criminaly for trcknig people into buying items that does not work.
