Really? Because Timesplitters and Half-Life didn't have to remove any weapons for console function.

I guess Gearbox is just less competent than other developers were ten years ago.

That's bull-crap, just like what the article said, they could of had a weapon wheel to make it work. They were just lazy and thought that the just by selling the name Duke-Nukem would be "GREAT SUCCESS!"
*g* it isn't really much of an article but with 10.000 views + its kinda the most popular thing i've written. thanks

My third thought was: Fuck it. Why do I have to aim with this utter shithole of a controller? And I gave it up. And it hasnt improved since that in any mentionable way!

PC users play with the mouse and consolers still muck about with those stupid little sticks. God its like watching a car with square wheels being hailed as a great invention in 2011. There is a better option! Use it already!
pfft don't blame consoles because you never learned to aim, i have played both FPS on console and pc, and i can honestly say, as a guy who kicks ass all the time, that theres no fucking difference. in either case your still using aim for lager adjustments, and strafe for small adjustments, and joysticks are as sensitive as a mouse, and you don't have to worry about running off the mouse pad and hitting the keyboard.

Simply put, your scenario implies knowledge of how the game is and how their design-choices will pan out, which is false considering that the game is unreleased.
my original post is referring to situational weapons/abilities in general, and does not necessary need to be a shrink gun. The more situational a item is the more it will affected by it and judging from what i have seen there will be quite a few situational items in DNF.
I do hope it breaks from that structure though.

lol @ all of the PC elitist morons getting another dose of reality. Another moment foreshadowing console gaming slowly but surely making PC gaming irrelevant.

Its bittersweet for me, Because I love pc games too, but it is amusing to see these head in the sand PC elitists react every time its revealed that consoles are setting the trends now, and pc gaming is slowly dying.

DING DING DING!

And I'm mostly a console player myself, so my sharing this sentiment counts for double. Silly argument person.
Let's not have with the crazy talk there, pal. Totally backwards thinking. I think maybe you want to go talk somewhere else now. In enough hot water as it is.

That's a cute photo, but it does sadly highlight exactly what I'm talking about. It shows alot of classic PC only games. But as the list goes on, its less and less exclusives (discounting as I said before the MMO's and Simulations)more and more things that also found their way to consoles.

By the end of the picture you're already lookin at games that ported in the other direction from console to PC. Its ironic to me that the last game is a multi-platform release that has people moaning about how its too much like (dumbed down) a console game...
Exclusive titles aren't really an issue for pc though. Considering that you need to buy a dev kit it is hardly surprising that only a tiny amount of indi games get a console release. Then you have basicly exclusive genres like rts and then you have all the free to play games.... And don't start with mmo's shouldn't count. Way to many ppl play them and just because people prefer them on pc doesn't disqualify them.
As long as exclusive titles outnumber those of consoles by over 1:10 i won't start to worry.
And even if they started to approach that number, I wouldn't mind i don't begrudge consoles if they get sth nice. I only have a problem with it when multiplatform releasing damages the game.

Devs can delay the PC game to make a port for all I care, aslong as it's a good port. I can wait.
Making the PC game first with consoles already in mind, doesn't help at all.
I agree with the first part, however, the BF3 team has stated that it is advantageous to make the game first for PC, then for consoles, and I say, why wouldn't it?

PCs have superior hardware and capabilities, and developing for the PC first means users will get the best of these. From there, you scale it down so it will work on consoles, whilst skimping on as few details as possible. It creates an all round better game.

I would prefer that to what some game devs do when making for consoles then PC: Make the console verion, add anti aliasing, sell as a PC game.

PC to console is far better IMO.

I guess while offering up the ridiculous defense that they limited weapon capacity to two "Because Halo did it" they didn't stop to think that if they hadn't played grab ass for over a decade, Bungee would have made design decisions "Because Duke Forever did it". They missed 12 years of windows of opportunity and dragged this thing out only to repeat steps taken by other developers in the interim? What kind of logic is that?

Because everybody knows no console game allows more than 2 weapons right Gearbox?
Yea Gearbox I mean c'mon! The best part of Bioshock was having to choose between your Shotgun and your Chemical Thrower!

OT: Yea this is lame, they are just being lazy and trying to blame it on the consoles.

So does the new Duke do anything new or impressive? Anything that another game will want to copy and imitate? Anything?

So either Gearbox is trying to cover their ass or they're full of PC elitists. Either way I'm not getting Duke.

Maybe with the first option they can actually get better...

I'd take that as a bit of an insult if I were a console gamer, considering Duke Nukem's hardly ever exactly been the moxt complex of gaming franchises or characters, it's like hearing Vin Diesel had to take shortcuts on F&F5 so that American audiences would understand what's going on.

Most people dissappointed with the DNF demo complained about some very odd design desicions.
First of all you can only have 2 weapons and switch them in a copy of the halo 1 system. this doesn't really work as 3d realms level design requires you to rapidly change qwickly between multiple weapons.
Also the "mighty boot" was replaced by halos melee system.

Here's a Devs response to the topic:
http://www.shacknews.com/chatty?id=26031903#itemanchor_26031903

They dumbed the amount of weapons down because of a lack of buttons on controllers and while they where alright with doing tweaks for the consoles they where to lazy to fix DNF for keyboard and mouse and allow the cut features on pc.

DNF was really damaged by the multiplatform release, a selection wheel for consoles would have worked in my opinion but hey now the design is bad on both platforms for blandness sake.
Avoid, get Alice or Deus ex. the deus ex team apparantly gave a shit.

I canceled, my DNF preorder the moment i got my hands on the demo, no wonder they held off till June 3rd. Is Deus ex, any good? i never heard of that video game before-just asking?
Dues Ex Invisible War was more than just "good". It made me think some important things (there was a speach in it by one of the supporting characters that's like 7 minutes long and not only was it not annoying, I think I've watched it like 20 times since I first saw it.) and for a "shooter" that's as good as it is, it had one of the best endings. (there were multiple endings as well) It had not only a weapon but a powers wheel. (Genetically upgrading yourself was part of the advancement system) really it was like an RPG/FPS to me. Call it the precursor to Mass Effect. It's THAT level of greatness. It also had the challenge that you could beat it with no more than a tranq gun. I came close but when the Mechs came out so did the Rocket Launcher. Ionstorm didn't dumb it down for consoles, they showed that consoles could be just as smart. I'm joining those more exited for Dues Ex. (Okay I was already there but work with me here....)

I've heard great things about the next Dues Ex but before now, the same was true of GearBox and I can't believe the things I'm hearing are coming from the same developer that made the greatness that is Borderlands. They can put enough into a game to actually make the first decent Medic since Team Fortress 2, but the mighty boot is too much of a stretch? I'm not buying it. Literally.
