The video below appeared on YouTube today. While watching it, I was quietly impressed and engaged by the developer's walkthrough of the bridge level's design.


Andreas Öjerfors also spoke about the use of id Software's MegaTexture [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MegaTexture] system that allows for the use of a single extremely large texture over a single object - say, a crumbling wall of the destroyed bridge, for instance. The idea, if I understand it right, is to remove the repetitive downside of tiled textures - look at the distant hills and underwater sands in Oblivion for a good example of that. The game's textures often looked blurred and took up a whopping 50GB of hard drive space. Then there was the unfortunate state that Rage turned out in...I suppose the technology requires further tweaking.
