Now i might be wrong but Naughty Dog don't get as much recognition as they deserve IMO. They have made the Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter and the Uncarted games, but are barely mentioned under all of Valve and Bungie praise.

That's just my opinion, but what about you?
Naughty Dog gets plenty of credit. As they're a Playstation only dev, you just have to go to Playstation focused forums to hear it.

Now, the guy who mentioned Insomniac, that I agree with. Granted, I don't like Resistance very much, but that's who needs it? Ratchet and Clank is still friggin' awesome! Hopefully when Insomniac does their multiplatform game, more people will see how great they are.

TellTale Games needs more credit too. It seems like every time there's a story about them or one of their games here, people have no idea what games they've made and/or think they made something they did not make.

Blizzard.
I know they get a lot of recognition.

But they probably deserve even more. Whatever genre they touch, they make the best games in it.

When they're taking a break from raping their own franchises.

Capcom.

I think people underestimate how goddamn complicated Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Street Fighter 4 are. The amount of testing that had to be done to get those games to an even semi-balanced state is MIND-BOGGLING.

On the other hand... their non-fighting games have been pretty poor recently. But still, their fighting game franchises are on a whole other level compared to their competition.

Starbreeze. They accomplished the impossible and made a fantastic game out of a movie ip. Escape from Butcher Bay is one of the most innovative games to come out of the previous generation. It seamlessly AND I MEAN SEAMLESSLY blends stealth, gunplay and melee with and has a great setting and atmosphere. Dark Athena ain't bad either.

IO solely for hitman. The hitman series is one of those niche franchises that is just so fucking good it can't even be described in words.

Retro Studios. The Metroid Prime series was golden, and no one should ever be allowed to handle Metroid again.

Everyone who said CD Projekt
Yeah, thanks for ruining my port of Saints Row 2

They did say CD Projekt Red rather than whoever earned your ire there but I guess that they are hyped to insane levels by fans anyway so I don't see why they are lacking the recognition they deserve. As are Naughty Dog if you look in the right places. I guess I don't see the point in this thread, unless we are just naming devs who have slightly less rabid fanboys than Bioware or Valve.

Obsidian is a good dev. Sure their games are buggy as hell usually, but past that they are great at story telling and writing. Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer had easily one of the best stories in any RPG that I've played.
Thankyou! Yes they need to pick up their bug and glitch fixing issues but they're one of the few developers who put story first. In fact, they're one of the few developers who's game I've played has actually had an effect on the way I view the world. Stories that actually enrich my life are sadly rare in the game industry.

4A Games (Metro 2033 was phenomenal)

Tale Worlds (Mount & Blade is amazingly fun)

Clover

Beep Industries (You may have had your death-knell after Voodoo Vince but damnit you won't be forgotten)

Johnson Voorsanger Productions/Toejam and Earl Productions (Toejam and Earl need I say any more?)

Plus, you know, The Darkness.
