...Really? I'M gonna have to be the one to make this thread? Escapists...I am disappoint.
Ok, so by now everyone is fully aware of the new Devil may cry and the HUGE negative backlash it's gotten so far for not being like Devil May Cry. I myself readily jumped on this bandwagon, partly due to the extreme change of Dante's character and design: It wasn't just white hair and smoking, although those were something to do with it. It was the fact he looked absolutely nothing like Dante: The facial structure was wrong, the eye color was wrong, the outfit was wrong (Although, i know he hasn't worn a red coat all his life, all the same..it still doesn't look like something he'd wear), even his personality was off a bit: He seemed more vicious psychotic then overconfident badass. So, until this game manages to show me this IS Dante, i will not recognize him as such..so, throughout this talk and any other subsuquent discussions, i will refer to him as Kevin.
Ok, now we got all THAT out of the way we can move to the trailer. My response? It actually looks good gameplay wise. The enemies look interesting and varied, the morphing weapon is sure to definitely come into play here. However, at the same time, it has definitely retained the core of what devil may crys combat is all about. Kevin flows rather nicely, and can string combo's together rather well from what i can see. From the first trailer, i assumed his movement would be a bit 'clunky' in an effort to make it realistic, and thank god Ninja theory didn't do that. The 'devil trigger' seems to transform him into a form more reminiscent of the Devil May Cry 3 Dante, which is a nice reference...But, at the same time, I'm a bit iffy if it works in canon (After all, Devil Trigger is first unlocked in the Third game...and while i understand it's a core mechanic, it's going to need a bit more explaination as to how he's able to use anything close to it). Still, that said, i atleast now have some hopes for this game and am pleasantly surprised by the gameplay. Graphics, enemy design, combat and music seem to have been nailed pretty well...lets just make sure they get the plot, character development and transformation from Kevin to Dante correct. So, for the moment, consider me off the 'ruined forever' boat and on the 'Optimistic, but still cautious' boat.
