I finally beat Devil May Cry today, the reboot. Not only was it fun but it was a slightly interesting story. I actually liked it enough to give the other game modes a try as well, currently replaying it on Son of Sparda difficulty as a result of my enjoyment. I also own the Virgil Downfall DLC thanks to my friends too so I may give that a try sometime soon as well, though I'd like to 100 percent my Dante first off. My favorite weapon would have to be Kablooie! though as it's just an all in all funny name for a gun and plus you get to blow enemies up with it. I've always loved the Devil May Cry games though this one is probably on par with Devil May Cry 3 with me.

Though I've taken a break from my endeavors to play the Jurassic Park Tell-Tale series and a few other games such as Payday, Resident Evil, and Crysis though I'll definitely go back to this game to give it a few more tries. My favorite boss would definitely have to be Vergil even though he's actually one of the more easier bosses to defeat but I've always liked Vergil since DMC 3.

Uhm. Anyways just provide feedback based on what you read, maybe tell me whom your favorite boss is in the series, maybe favorite weapon, even a character but please do give feedback.

I have to admit, I was among the crowd who was not... uhh, let's say, not best pleased with DmC: Devil May Cry when I first saw and heard about it but I picked it up when it was cheap last year and I was pleasantly surprised. I mean, in some ways it irritates me - the writing is the typical dull and gritty reboot fare, the introduction of swearing kind of went against the 'feel' of the previous games if you see what I mean, the characters were insipid and most of the bosses were very disappointing (like the Slurm Queen worm thing and the not-quite final boss). That said, the combat was absolutely lovely, the music was exciting and the level design was gorgeous (stand outs being the level where you go upside down in the reflection on the water and the level inside the club where the level changes with the beat of the music) and the very final fight was fantastic as well as being a great callback to the final fight of Devil May Cry 3.

Regarding Vergil's Downfall, that particular piece of DLC was a little disappointing. I loved playing as Vergil - playing as Vergil in Devil May Cry 3 was a real highlight of that game - and again, combat as Vergil once again didn't disappoint. But, the general plot of the DLC was tedious and the level design went from inspired to awful, relying on floating platforms and humdrum hellscapes. Still worth a play, but not quite as good as the base game.

As to stuff like favourite bosses and weapons and whatever, my favourite boss in the series is the final fight with Vergil in 3, which I thought captured the balance between just how powerful Dante and Vergil were (which is up there alongside the Jackpot moment from the same game as capturing that feeling) and my favourite weapon is easily Nevan. I mean, it's an electric guitar that turns into a scythe and you can fight by using powerslides! That's awesome!

Yeah, I really like Devil May Cry 3. All 5 games have their moments, but 3 is definitely my pick.

I hated emo Dante but I really enjoyed the combat. Especially on the higher difficulties. It just forced you to really use all your tools. That said, let it be known that I HATED the witches! If you can't take those out quickly you have your work cut out for you.

The bosses ... Other than Vergil they weren't so impressive. Well, I guess I actually liked the very first tutorial boss.

Only other DmC I played was the demo for 4 and put the controller down after a few minutes. Didn't click with me.

Well, and the shit out of both Bayonettas if that counts :)

edit: if you like the combat in DmC, pick up Heavenly sword for cheaps to see where they got the idea from.

I havent tried the new one still but I was never really against the redesign probably because I felt Dante changed to much after the first anyway and so did not care much. I did play the demo and enjoyed that the levels were awesome and the combat was solid.

I loved the first DMC but feel they lost their way then. 2 and 4 were pretty bad and 3 was kinda meh for me wasnt until Bayo and its sequel that I felt the satisfaction I felt in DMC 1 surpassed although I did really like Ninja Gaiden and to a lesser extent its first sequel.

I do still plan on getting the new DMC though at some point I wouldnt say I love Ninja theorys works but I found Heavenly Sword and to a lesser extent Enslaved entertaining and I am actually looking forward to Hellblade.

I would say you should definitely pick up Devil May Cry, it's worth it, in my opinion of course. However you shouldn't just base your buying of Video Games off of someones opinion... all I know is that I enjoyed it and out of the 100 something games my friends own I'd say it's one of my more favorites, though I'm not entirely enjoying Virgil's Downfall as much as the main storyline and yes I do believe they kind of did a mere job with the bosses and some of the enemies but I feel as if the storyline still immersed me more than a few other Video Games that I've played in the past.

I got it from ps+ for free. I played it because it was free. Did i mention FREE? I didn't enjoy it. It felt long and tedious without the spectacle of say bayonetta. The bosses were lackluster and i didn't need to know dante has a bigger dick than vergil.

Did you seriously just imply that Devil May Cry 4 is as bad as Devil May Cry 2 was?
Nope I just said I found them bad did not say anything about equally or comparably so. Did not realise they have done a definitive version of the new one hmmm then again I suppose thats all the rage atm still a bit pricy for me but will keep an eye on it.

Every time I think I might want to pick up that game because the combat looks fun I remember that awful "fuck you" scene and give it a pass. Maybe when it's really cheap but probably not if that scene is indicative of the writing in the rest of the game.

It is actually Vergil whom says he has the bigger, keep that in mind now.

I'll buy it when I can get it for a fiver or less.
I'm not prepared to invest any more than that in a non-camp Devil May Cry game.
And can we please call it "DMC: Devil May Cry," "Devil May Cry" was the original.
It's still consider Devil May Cry, though add Reboot afterwards and I'm sure it'll make more sense.

That is probably the best scene in the game though! I mean come on, who doesn't love listening to profanity every second?

Im pretty sure it was Dante. Vergil wouldn't say that, it's out of character. Dante was the one drinking and having casual sex while vergil read books and learned how to computer.

Ah the joys of communication on the internet, I honestly cannot tell if your reply is sarcastic or not.

Personally not a fan of anything about the reboot. The art style/graphics, the characters, the story and even the gameplay does not intrigued me in anyway. I also have a strong dislike towards the swearing in the game (I do not mind swearing , I love 999 for that) but it felt like Gears of War level of swearing (which is very forced and immature)

I am happy that many people liked it but as a hack n slash fan, it does nothing for me, especially when there are other games like the older DMC games, Ninja Gaiden series and Bayonetta exist.

My favorite boss in the series gotta be Geryon the Time steed from Devil May Cry 3. It looked so Awesome and majestic.

My Favorite weapons are Beowulf,Gilgamesh, Ifrit, Nevan and Cerberus.

dmc the reboot felt way too easy for me and way too button mashy even on hardest difficulty it was snoozefest which is made worse by angel/demon enemies that are immune to some weapons. whoever though that was a good idea ... Overall thought its a decent game just not as good as any of the previous ones and tained by bad character reimagening that was totaly uncesesary. Virgils Downfall I couldnt stand. Disliked it so much that I've finished only half of it.

DMC3/DMC4 are still very good games with 60 fps throughout on any todays gaming pc which is important in games like this. 1/2 haven aged well imo and I wouldnt recomend playing them now.

Bayonetta is better than all of DMC imo thought and except for a few chapters is flawless clasic. just make sure to play it on xbox since ps3 version is just terrible.
