I was watching the Total Biscuit video on used games and he said that Bands use selling songs as a way to get people to go to concerts, so I thought, "what if we did this with games?", so do we have Game Developers making Let's Plays of games they made? Total Biscuit says that a let's play should be about how the games work, other people will have this opinion as well because that is how people work, developers will know their game better than most people so couldn't Developers try this?
They can make a bit of money off the side and we can get some, hopefully, good quality content to watch.

Did a dev of a King Arthur game do this?

Captcha, had to post again: Blaze a Trail
That's right Game Developers! Blaze the Trail so that others do it too!

Funny you should mention this; the developers of Conker's Bad Fur Day just started doing this.

It's very, very honest, bluntly so, and pretty funny too.

The youtube channel is Conker King, if I recall correctly.

Edit; found it.

That's a really good idea! At the very least we could get an honest commentary out of them. But maybe it could turn into an MST-style breakdown of the games! I get the feeling there are contractual limitations though that keep most of the devs from being honest about their games until years after they've been released though.

Excellent idea. It could also help make them better developers too, since they would be seeing it from a different perspective, and seeing things that they could do better in later titles.
Might also be a good idea to strap the publishers down and force them to play through their own games too.

Hideki Kamiya does this with Bayonetta, it's on Platinums blog subbed. However he doesn't know much of the industry, he just knows how to make games. Having that LP is part of the reason why Platinum are so awesome.

And again yes... I believe the Devs for Terraria did this as well

and if I had half a mind to bother embedding the video I would put it right here: (but I don't)

I do like the idea. I've played a couple of games where there was developer commentary (most notably the Portal games) and I really liked listening to it. I also generally enjoy it a lot when developers show off gameplay demos and lead you through a level or two and speak about the game and what they've done with it and why. Skyrim and Fable both did that really well. I think videos like that are part of the reason why some games get so much hype before release and why people's expectations for a game can get so high, which shows you how effective that kind of video is. I totally think you could do something like that across an entire game.

So, yeah, I definitely think I'd be interested in watching it.

Well... we do have this http://www.gamedevsplayinggamesbadly.com/ but it's more for our own amusement.

There's a large group of us that play games frequently together, also with the occasional tournament - even got to play against Valve in TF2 (they cheat BTW).

Some of us stream games out over Twitch now and then, but it's nothing regular. I guess I can send the word along to various community managers that I know for more Let's Plays.

To some extent it feels like the band wearing their own shirts to a concert.
On the other hand, it was great seeing the XCom Let's Play Firaxis did before the game was released, and director commentary would be really interesting.

Wouldn't you? I mean if I had all the codes I would cheat too. Best one I saw is when they made the team invincible and then lit their team on fire. Valve still lost but it looked much cooler.

I am all for LPs by the dev team, who better to show secrets and ad commentary?
