I've watched it and for the life of me can not see why this is so damned popular. If theres one thing that gets me about the shows premise is this: the step father of a psychopath, who served as a cop, tells his woefully sick stepson to kill people who have it coming?
No. I know some shows expect you to hold some measure of disbelief but thats just ridiculous.

Dexter. Well shot, well acted but ultimately stupid. thats my opinion anyways

this is the same in both the books and the series, tho there are different things in the book but it's just the why of Dexter's killing needs

actually he teaches his son to kill for a couple reasons, he realizes that his son has a need to kill things and that there are criminals that escape the system. i know in the books and i think in the series they explain that there was a guy who got away and Harry is pissed that they can't go rearrest him, so his partner goes and kills him. so he starts training Dexter to kill and not get caught so he can go after the bad guys who got away

the series is good and the books are great, i've got all four. the main thing to realize is that the books are different from the series and certain aspects of the books aren't in the series. both are really good, tho i do like the books a lot

Dexter has one of the best characters ever in TV...Sergeant Doakes.

He is the only guy in the world that pointing a gun at the bad guy with a very serious face shout "SUPRISE ************!" and make it look and sound hilarious!

He also holds the show best line:
Doakes to Dexter: Now grab a crayon, psycho, and scribble this down!"

Sergeant Doakes: A goldmine of stupid bad but hilarious lines.

he's even better in the books, he's awesome in the books and him and Dexter have an even more cantankerous relationship in them

It's a great series. I've seen them all to date and cant wait for the next one to finally start being aired.
