If there's one thing Naughty Dog is good at, it's getting the most out of the Playstation consoles.

All the graphical enhancements are nice but I'm happiest about that AI part. While Uncharted has never been about the gun battles so much as the set pieces, it's nice to know that Naughty Dog spiced up those fights by making the enemies smarter than a box of fairly unintelligent rocks like the previous games.

I don't yet have a PS4 but the games worth getting are starting to pile up. Maybe Black Friday will be a Sony year this year...

Haven't watched the video since I'm only in the middle of the game, but the game is simply amazing visually, so many locals, each one unique in it's weather, sky boxes that are absolutely expensive and even change mid level! This is one of the games I killed myself just to see if they actuyally put textures on the bottom, and usually they did! Probably the best graphics in a game I played.

As for AI, I play on hard and it's fucking hard, going without stealth is suicide because the enemies WILL flank you.
Bought it myself today. I haven't watched the video either, so could you tell me how the performance is?

I'm not an expert on graphics but besides a single load time when you start everything is seemless.
If he meant framerate then the video does state it's extremely stable, with only a couple brief mid-twenties drops during the beginning set piece, ironically. Given the expanded gameplay and detail throughout it is an impressive feat. Only some shadowing is noticeably lower quality, but still not PS3 bad.

In lieux of an Uncharted hype thread, I'll just dump it in here for now, I'll try to keep it visually based.
And I didn't watch the video, I'll watch it *after* I finish the game, it said spoilers.

Anyway.

Oh my God, this game is gorgeous.
Everything moves so well, the people, the way the rocks slide on the... slides, the way the belts swing from the guns, hair billowing in the wind, could've sworn I saw chromatic aberration from a muzzle flash. I could go on but I don't really have time to write a novel, I'll just leave it at "it makes my eyes happy".

Not going to watch the video because I'm waiting for certain other things before I spoil myself on the game, but I mean, yeah? Since the first Uncharted, Naughty Dog has been all about getting as much as they can out of a system. The animation quality and density of environmental objects/physics in Uncharted 3 and The Last of Us is astounding, and those were on consoles with 512 MB of RAM and CPU/GPUs that started development in, like, 2000.

The only real rough patches I've seen in the visuals so far is that the hair can suffer a tad of the current gen pixely-ness, and that there's some of those grating effects I've noticed in other PS4 games. But yeah, other than that this game is stunning. I don't know what unfortunate programmers and artists got mushed in order to get this game looking the way it does.

And surprisingly enough... it's also actually really fucking good. I haven't finished it yet, and maybe something'll happen at the end to make me change my tune, but as it stands it's the best game in the franchise. Straley and Druckmann really are a dream duo over at Naughty Dog.

Finished it just now, it is the best game in the series (even more then 2), best plot (besides the kina soapopera premise), best character moments, best gameplay (the hook adds a lot of fun, and letting you stealth some segments is immensely satisying), also after watching Breaking Bad it's a breath of air having a GOOD wife character that understands the hero and not a giant *****, the male villain is kind of one dimensional but the female one is very good, and see looks like she can kick the ass of anybody who tries.
It gets a bit long in the tooth near the end though, and that ending was a bit too much. I mean, I know this is the end of the series and all, but it's Uncharted, not Lord of the Rings. The game also seems very much intent on romanticizing the shit out of foreign cultures and traveling, like we're still living in the thirties.

But yeah, pretty damn great game.

I wonder how little Cassie is gonna feel when she finds out her dad killed, like, a thousand dudes.

funny thing though,
the second we see the island I wondered why no one goes directly to the incredibly omnious mountain.
Yeah, you'd think an army that has all these armored vehicles would have atleast one helicopter.

Am absolutley loving this game so far. Very fun, delicious on the eyes and much respect to Naughy Dog, they are honing their skills to a fine art. I also find myself not hating Nathan as much as i'd thought. Top notch voice acting, but a few characters sound straight out of The Last Of Us...gaming needs more variety of voice actors. I shall make it my goal to accomplish this...err, somehow! But yeah, the most single player fun i've had in a while. Exciting, swashbuckling goodness!
Is Nathan supposed to be a homage to Nathan Fillion by any chance?

I never really hated Drake in the previous games, but he was always a very one dimensional video character, spouting one-liners and just being cocky for the sake of it. In this game he definately has a lot more meat to his character.

I never really cared much for Elena or Drake's relationship with her in games 1 to 3, but that one couch scene in 4 instantly made me feel invested in them. Also, that easter egg... Fucking brilliant!

Naughty Dog pretty much has Nolan North and Troy Baker in a stable, ready for when they're producing a new game. And from the sound of it, the guy who played Henry in TLoU also plays the supervisor guy with the beard at the salvage company where Drake worked. Unless ofcourse I'm just being really racist.

Agreed, the brief attempts at demos for the Nathan Drake collection did put me off with solely his one-liners for me to judge him on. There is working chemistry in this game now and that couch scene had me invested quicker than anticipated. The banter during the easter egg did bring a good chuckle or two. It was an interesting contrast in how far the developer and technology has improved too!

*Points damning finger of accusation* Closet racist!! ;) Anyhow, the scene with boy Nathan, i am not certain on this, but his voice actor had striking similarities to Ellie's VA. Male kids often use female VAs, so it could very well be. Also that (thief?) black lady, her name escapes me currently, seemed to be channelling Thandie Newton from Mission Impossible 2, the British accent sells it.

That's actually Laura Bailey, another regular in the voice acting circuit. And she's white and American... There was a whole controversy about it, too. I can usually pick Bailey out, but when I first saw footage of Nadine and heard her speak I didn't think nothing of it other than they got a black actress for the part. I think there's a crack in the performance once when you can really hear Bailey, but otherwise she freaking nails it.

Please tell me that controversy is born from something serious like Bailey devouring a baby to get the role...the obvious guess makes me gently weep, Only just today i heard two great Nelson Mandela impressions from UK folk, no one batted an eyelid. Did not realise it was her till now. Quite some talent there! The subtleties of accent are difficult to master.

I'm playing the game at the moment and it's absolutely stunning to look at. I can't even begin to imagine how the hell they squeezed a level of performance out of a PS4 that would make my high end PC work hard for. The story is decent, and the music and voice acting are both great, but as has been the case with all the Uncharted games, I don't find the actual gunplay much fun at all. In fact I find all the gameplay systems kind of boring; they work, but they're quite basic and I just don't find actually playing the game to be all that fun. If not for the story (and the fact that I paid A$100 for it), I'm not sure I would finish it. Overall, I'd say it's good, but it's not the masterpiece I was expecting given the reviews it's gotten.

You paid $100 for a game from a series you don't enjoy playing?

I like the story and general feel of the series, I just don't find the actual gameplay all that satisfying. It's okay, but not great. In any case, I'm near the end now, and although I stand by my criticisms of the gunplay, the overall experience has won me over.
