Well, I couldn't believe it when I saw it. But sure enough looks like Blizzard has a content patch coming for that old classic Diablo 2. Pretty surprising they are doing this for a game that is over ten years old. I am wondering if maybe they are wanting to test some idea's they have for Diablo 3. Thoughts?

Well... my thought is this is a half-done patch that was in the works years ago that they have decided to start up again in order to help market the upcoming Diablo 3. If they can get everyone back playing Diablo 2 there is a good chance that a lot of D2 players are going to scurry off to buy D3 on launch day.

Well, admirable as it might be, its main motivation is to raise hype for D3. Don't get me wrong, it's a good idea. D2 players get an update and Blizz gets its marketing on by putting the "Diablo" brand out there again. Win-win situation.

That's odd, good, but odd. As good an excuse to give it another whirl as any other I suppose.
Since Dialo 3 won't be released untill 2010 at the earliest, this should keep any cravings for loot I might have at bay.

Holy crap.

I know it's just a marketing trick to make people see that Diablo 2 is still alive... But hot damn, it is.

I have to agree. They are doing this to raise hype for D3, but I wont complain about it. Couple of changes I hope they add is a shared stash, and to up the resolution a bit.

I think its awesome that blizzard still supports games even after they stop making them any real money I love their content patches especially the Synergies make character building just that bit more interesting

this needs to be in the news room, but still...i'm glad Bli$$ard (doesn't work, does it?) is giving out a patch for a game, unless they start making you pay to play D2 online.

I still play D2...a lot...and ever since D3 has been announced tons and tons of people have come running back to d2. It's kinda sad really since I dont see how the characters can be transfered over in the long run. They are all wasting their time esp since Blizz said it was going to be like a whole new game.

I think the new path is nothing more than scraps to toss to the people who came back since it seems like D3 is going to be longer in the works. Who knows though. A new patch is a good thing, so I dont think anyone should really be complaing. I just pray to God they are taking muling into consideration this time around.

*Crosses fingers* please please please please....

Are you kidding me? Diablo 2 is top10 seller in games in a Polish line of stores, Empik. And has been for... 4-5 months already. Only Sims beat it and Counter Strike.

Doesn't mean the game is not making money.

Also, the more people get Diablo 2 and like it, the more people will buy Diablo 3.

So, what type of stuff does everyone hope they put into this patch?
A totally new class?
Are you asking what we want, or what we're going to get?

Either one really :)
Well, I'd like to be able to run around the harem for a bit, before it gets trashed.
I'm going to get bug fixes, maybe some new areas. I'm not expecting much.

The point is that blizzard doesn't have to WoW makes enought money
Im hoping 1.13 patch has swappable stats and skills

Yeah, they don't have to.

But they still do it.

I find it's great.
