Diablo 2 technical issues

Whenever I try to run D2, I get


Error 25:A critical error has occurred while initializing Direct3D.


Since you guys seem quite well versed in this sort of thing I was wondering if you had any helpful tidbits of information.

Maybe you need to patch it for it to work?

Sounds like a fault with the graphic card. You do have Directx10 and the 1.05 patch I'm assuming? I know the original didn't work with XP without.
