Diablo 3: not sure if I care?

I'm just graduating with my BS degree in IT, and well I'm a bit broke, looking at not a lot of job prospects, and facing needs such as housing, vehicle, and staying alive. Diablo 3 just isn't looking very enticing. Between its always online mode only, pay to win cash shop, and that whole made by the right hand of the devil Activision/Blizzard (EA taking the left), I can't seem to muster any interest or care.

I guess what I'm trying to say is I don't think I care. I just found out about Quest for Glory on GoG for $10 (looks at nearly empty wallet) vs a game that requires an Internet connection I might not have next week.

(at least steam lets me play my games offline).

Edit:

The point is, I'm broke, out of school and out of work. Its May and I'm not the only broke out of work, just graduated person. Yet despite no one I know having any money, they are ALL talking about D3. I spent a bit of time analyzing my own feelings and made a post about them. So yeah, slightly pointless, but I just wanted to throw my thoughts out there to see if there were any other broke out of work possibly ex-college graduates out there wondering if they can still justify the overall expense of playing this highly anticipated game. So far, with the feedback I'm getting, I think I'm alone on this. People are planning on investing in this game whether they can afford to or not.

Sure, it sucks. I also like to see gamers standing up and wanting change. But why don't people base their opinions on the actual game and whether or not it's fun/whatever you get out of video games, rather than outside factors.

I guess this train of thought is needed at a time like this, for the sake of future gaming. But you can't all act as though you don't want to play Diablo 3. You know you had a fucking great time with Diablo one and two, and you'd love nothing more than to dig your teeth into the product--blood and guts everywhere.

Only one solution. Give in to your masters, get on your hands and knees, and open your mouth.(yes, I'm a Blizzard spy trained in espionage and propaganda among other abilities.)

Congratulations on graduating with a BS degree! And also, welcome to the real world! May I suggest Titan Quest as an alternative?

Oh man, oh man I TOTALLY agree about the quest of glory bundle. All 5 games for 10$ holy HELL that is so awesome and I also bought wolf 3d spear of destiny on steam for $1.25 when it was on sale and just found out it also contains those lost episodes. And I haven't even started the tarnum heroes of might and magic 3 campaigns which I'm still giddy over.

I'm canceling all my triple A pre-orders. I mean, its frigging quest for GLORY! all FIVE of them!! And more HoMM 3 which in my opinion is the best game EVER! I am totally gog's *****. And I'll second titan quest, its quite good.

Diablo what? who gives a horse's ass.

You cared enough to make a thread about not caring though, so....?
I'm saying that I don't care about its release. I'm seeing ads on the web, radio ads when I wake up in the morning on my alarm clock radio, and various other sources. I looked at the game, watched the beta gameplay from a month ago, and read all the news, and for as much as I want to play a loot heavy clicking action game, Diablo 3 doesn't fit in with any lifestyle I'll be experiencing in the near or not quite so near future.

I won't have an Internet connection next week.
I won't have a place to live next week.
I won't have access to transportation next week.
I won't have a job next week.
I won't be in school for the summer and no student loans or scholarships to pay bills next week.
Finally, I don't even know what I'll be eating next week.

Combine that with always on DRM Internet connection mandatory, no income, and cheaper alternatives....I can't find a valid reason to care about its release despite the marketing hype or interest I hear from others. The thing is, I don't think I'm alone on this either. D3 isn't going to fail on launch due to pre-pays from World of Warcraft subs, and the long term fan base. That said, I don't think that I'm alone in looking at the game as not fitting their wants and needs at the time of launch and we'll see quite a few reviews from franchise fans trickle in over time talking about just not being interested. In other words: MEH.

I think those are... important factors to mention... when you speak of a lack of interest in a particular game...

Don't get me wrong, guy, I wish you the best of luck. Unless you killed 10 people and are presently on the run from the law. Then I wish you no luck at all. (Unless those 10 people you killed were evil [but you should still show some remorse])

But all of this is like if I'd logged onto some ferrari club website and said I wasn't really into their newest release. And when they asked why, I'd clarify I don't really have a job... or money...

You can still have an opinion, just clarify where you're coming from and where, particularly, your criticisms lie.

No offense, but welcome to the real world. Should probably spend some time looking for work, rather than deciding if you care about a game or not.

Me neither, but I'll cook something. I usually don't plan my meals for the weeks to come, I just make some food depending on my mood.

"I don't think I care about Diablo 3 despite it's hype because I might be homeless next week". I'm pretty sure there are a lot of other games you don't really care about seeing you might not even have a place to live or even enough food to go by.

Yeah, I don't really want to start playing, what is basically an MMO. I'd rather wait for Torchlight2. Diablo3 does look good, but playing these games with randoms online is like pulling teeth - and knowing Blizzard will make it too frustrating to solo the whole game... Meh, Torchlight2 it is.

Sounds like a lot of you are having it pretty rough, hope things improve for you all soon.

I have to admit too that Diablo III really isn't something I care about any more. I mean i played Diablo II ages ago, and I found it to be an ok game. It was actually the first game I ever played online with other people at the time, but so much time has passed and I just don't care any more. It kinda reminds me of how Duke Nuke'm story kinda went and I gotta wonder who are these people that after so many years are still begging for a sequel. I don't hope it fails don't get me wrong I just fail to see how its relevant anymore. I might buy it eventually but tbh its not something I feel like I must get or even want.

The game isn't that great from what I've played, it is hard to get too hyped up for it's release. There are a lot of Diabloesque games you could play that are better. Torchlight 2, Titan Quest, or hell, just go play modded Diablo 2. There are a lot of great mods out there.

Is this going to happen again? Popular game comes out, shit ton of threads about it, peppered with variations of "I don't get why its so popular?" ones?

I mean it's not happening yet but, release date is right around the corner...

Yeah... it sounds like acquiring new video games should be extremely low on your list of priorities. There's nothing wrong with just not gaming, or only playing old games for awhile. I've been forced to stop gaming entirely three times in my life. It's always there when you have the time and money to come back.

As for Diablo 3... I for one didn't have much fun with Diablo 2. Click-fest dungeon crawlers just aren't my thing anymore (played out pretty much entirely for me with Diablo 1. I played the crap out of that game back when it was new).

Christ, a bigger portion than I'd like of the posters in here are bitter husks, aren't they? The guy's in pretty dire financial straights and you're harping on about how he's obviously not managing his time well enough to succeed in his actual life.

Here's an idea! Hop off his back and stop knee-jerking! There's no innate criticism, here, just a guy stating why an overpriced (thanks inflation) triple-A game isn't a sensible purchase, and that's why it isn't as appealing as it may be otherwise.

Jesus fuck.

it sounds like, given you current position in life, this game isn't for you.
I mean, if you have neither time, money or reliable internet...
and if you're not too keen on what it offers to begin with, I don't see why you'd even contemplate buying it.

If you're interested in the game, then check out vids for it when it comes out and make your decision when your situation becomes less volatile.

at the end of the day, you don't have to play D3,

I wasn't excited until my best friend said he would play it with me. Then I was so excited that I was happy that my surgery was being delayed by two weeks so I wouldn't miss the launch.

I think I have an inner adult and I'm mostly child...

I played the demo for 20 minutes a week ago and said "I don't get it". Haven't touched it since.

Yeah, I don't get it.
