Well, I'm picking it up. What ever doubts I had were sufficiently snuffed out when I got to play the open beta that weekend.
So in short, they created their own problem due to Activision wanting to exploit people who spend REAL money on VIRTUAL stuff, and they "fix" this problem by requiring always-on internet for single player mode.Substitute Troll said:No, it's because of the real money auction house. If they made the game available offline, people could easily find a way to hack in items and make tons of money.
Yeah that's called WoW.jetpickering said:Something I also wanted to know is whether or not there will be a subscription fee? Because that would be a game breaker for me if there was one.
It's an anti-hack system.Aircross said:jetpickering said:Diablo 3...Should I get it?![]()
That is for you to decide.
Personally, the need for permanent internet connection is a no deal for me.
Dungeon Crawling games are something I play when I don't have an internet connection.
I mean, what is Blizzard and Activision afraid of?
People cheating in the friggin' SINGLE PLAYER MODE?

And before anyone says it's an anti-piracy method, Steam does DRM better seeing as it has a functional offline mode.
Conspiracy theory, conspiracy, more conspiracy.Aircross said:So in short, they created their own problem due to Activision wanting to exploit people who spend REAL money on VIRTUAL stuff, and they "fix" this problem by requiring always-on internet for single player mode.Substitute Troll said:No, it's because of the real money auction house. SEEMS LEGIT
I've seen the cinematic, and I have no idea what you're talking about.Hammeroj said:Yeah... You're assuming the story in Diablo 3 will be worth a crap. Had you seen the opening cinematic, you'd know that is not the case.MysticToast said:I have one word why you should get it:
TYRAEL!
Just have to point out that I didn't have internet for months and months. Then, I got a wireless connection through my phone but still go into offline mode every day. The only time it failed me was when I downloaded a game, then went into offline mode without opening the game first. Offline may have a few bugs, but it is still functional.Aeshi said:On the rare occasion it works.Aircross said:And before anyone says it's an anti-piracy method, Steam does DRM better seeing as it has a functional offline mode.
I myself would recommend Diablo III if you like loot and killing stuff
I played the beta and there were no escort mission in the regular "take this guy with you and go here, done". I think we had two missions where there were someone with us, but we still focused on killing monsters and the guy that was following us was supposed to go to the same place we were.Hammeroj said:D2 has no story? Blasphemer!Crazy Zaul said:How much story does D3 have? Blizz said it has more that D2 but from the ~1h I played D2 it has no story whatsoever so 'more' wouldn't be much.
Of course, it's a hack'n'slash game so it's pretty much natural for the story to take a backseat to killing monsters, otherwise the killing monsters part would be really dragged down by the story elements. Which is funny, that's exactly the case in D3. It's riddled with shitty escort missions, shitty characters with shitty dialogue and severely unimpressive cutscenes, at least throughout the demo.
There are literally something like 4 escort missions in the space of one hour. Seriously hoping that's not the case after the first couple of hours.
Edit: And I don't know how the hell I posted this. This comment was supposed to be deleted, heh.
Yeah...I have to say if the Open beta weekend impresses me, I'm forking out to take part in the closed beta.SmashLovesTitanQuest said:Depends. If you mind being stuck in log in queues TO PLAY A FUCKING SINGLE PLAYER MODE I MEAN JESUS CHRIST HOW FUCKING STUPID IS THIS then no.
PoE looks waaay better, and its free.
