Day 1 buy for me
The Blizzard/HK stuff is blown out of proportion.
Blizzard have every right to ban the player and curate what is said on their private streams.
Blizzard isn't causing the protest in hong kong. Gamers are idiots.
It has nothing to do with free speech/democracy.
Take it one step further and throw out all the stuff in your house that comes from China.
Gamers are idiots.
This sentiment would make sense if I threw out the Polar Seltzer in my fridge because they had a contest which they denied the winner's prize because he or she once tweeted something in support of Hong Kong.
We're not angry at the products that China produces. China going back on its word for autonomy in Hong Kong governing itself? Yes. But that is legislators. And if the companies that make these products back it, yeah, I'd probably wouldn't buy it again. Not consuming a product I bought is wasteful and does not help anything... in fact, that would cause more of a mess if you think about it.
However, Blizzard has bent over backwards to defend a potential income source while lying to our faces. Note, I would have actually been more ok with the move (still wouldn't given them any money for many other reasons) if they didn't cower and lie to everyone's faces.
But you know, let's get into more of those reasons.
I do not buy any online-only games any more. I do not play online with almost anyone any more. My enjoyment of a game is strictly local to me, myself, and I. I do not see the need to be constricted by the fact that you or others might want to play online so my enjoyment has to be linked to how others like a game.
But beyond that. I haven't liked how Blizzard has handled its E-sports leagues [https://www.espn.com/esports/story/_/id/25529551/blizzard-cuts-heroes-storm-esports-including-collegiate-heroes-dorm], cutting 8% of its workforce [https://esportsobserver.com/activision-blizzard-q4-layoffs/] despite record revenue, and while having positive steps with correcting Overwatch's toxicity, I hate the monetization of it.
Glad you found something to like here. Others didn't. People aren't idiots if they disagree with you, just as people aren't idiots because they agree with you. 7.7 billion people in the world. At least twenty times that in perception.
