Diablo halp

Hi guys,

Quick question, on diablo on pc when I talk to people it crashes the game can anybody help.
Just to clarify, when I try to talk to NPCs my whole pc freezes up and I have to restart my pc.

Its my laptop so around 2001 (I don't know the specs but it was new then.

And diablo 1. no expansion packs.
