Diablo II question

I'm contemplating getting Diablo II, since I have yet to play any of those games, and have heard good things about them.

I have a couple of concerns, however. The first one is difficulty. I don't mind hard games, as long as they are fair-hard. In other words, I don't mind games where I have to just get better and get more skilled to win, versus games where I win or lose based on how the gaming gods feel.

The other is price. It is $10 on Blizzard, and the same price for the expansion pack.

So, three questions. First, how is the difficulty on Diablo II? Second, is it worth $10? And third, if it is, should I get the expansion pack for the same price?

Diablo 2 isn't that hard on normal difficulty. It doesn't start getting hard until you reach act 2 and that's just because of all the poison and lightning beetles. There really is nothing that's frustrating except for the end act bosses which can be bullshit sometimes (specifically Duriel in act 2). The difficulties kinda how you described it, you just got to get better and learn from your mistakes, and occasionally grind if need be. Also defiantly get the expansion, it has lots of content and is defiantly worth the price, also the druid class is one of the best there is. And if you want you can always find the Diablo 2 battle chest in stores which has Diablo 2, the Lord of Destruction expansion, Diablo 1, and a very handy walkthrough and guide.

The difficulty is as high as you want it to be. If you want to play all the way to the highest difficulty then you can - at this stage it's just a constant gear check and if that's your thing then have fun. The game is old, and it looks old, but I remember putting many many hours into it 'back in the day'.

As for pricing - if you are going to buy Diablo 2, you absolutely must buy the expansion. I think the original has a locked resolution of 640x480 which is prehistoric. That and the expansion is very good.
