So it's bad form to discuss beta goings-on in forums and stuff I know but this latest patch pissed me off something fierce. I actually took all the time and effort to get the Betamaxxed achievement for completing all of the Achievements given in the Beta and this latest patch went in and nuked everything, all my characters, all my items, all my gold. And. ALL. MY. ACHIEVEMENTS.

I just stared at the patch notes and went: Y'know Blizzard, I'm willing to waste my time to a point completing your stupid arbitrary achievement challenges because you make decent games, but wiping out all my progress for no reason? There was no need to wipe out the achievements, take the items/gold/characters, I expected that to happen a couple times in the Beta, because that's what a beta is, it's a rough draft, but what the bloody shit is the point to having achievements in a beta when you're going to erase those too?!

Seriously, that's just unpleasant.

Anyways, I don't know if anyone else is in one the beta but yea, I'm unhappy with this latest turn of events. I refuse to play those half-baked classes to max beta level again, I refuse to grind out 10,000gp again and I refuse to pay your arbitrary sum of gold to level up that retarded crafting system which, by the way, you seem intent on doubling the price of with every gorram patch.

Fuck you Blizzard, just... just fuck you.

On an entirely unbiased note to those of you who have gotten this far, Diablo III isn't actually very good. The controls are choppy, the graphics are barely past Torchlight, and the gameplay is painfully mediocre. Honestly, I had more fun playing Torchlight than I did playing this beta. I realize that a beta is unfinished to a certain degree but the graphics, controls, and overall gameplay aren't going to be seeing any radical changes.

Also the gold, anyone remember grinding gold for the mounts back in vanilla WoW? Anyone? Yea, they're making it worse than that. Every single patch is hiking up the gold prices by orders of magnitude, I don't mean like 1000 goes to 1500, I mean like the price for buying extra stash space is around 50,000 gold now.

did you try,
ya know,
contacting blizzard at all before raging? cause while I'm not in the beta, I'm pretty sure they give a heads up when they're going to wipe every out thing out like that.

Ok this pisses me off.

IT IS A BETA YOU ASSHAT

You didn't pay shit for it, you are in it to test things out and help improve the release version all your progress is going to get wiped anyway once the beta ends. If Bliz wipes data they wipe data end of story you aren't entitled to shit get over it.

Congratulations. You've missed the whole point of a beta. This isn't supposed to be a "Play For Free Before It Comes Out" thing (even though people treat it as such), you're supposed to be finding bugs. And if bugs are FOUND (gasp), then they have to fix them. If this requires a core change that alters player data, then they'll wipe it.

End of story.

The fact that you paid nothing to get into it doesn't help you.

Basically what needs to be said has been said.

You're acting like you've paid for a game, when you're testing a game.

There should be some quiz that people have to do before getting a beta invite so they don't get people like OP.

Seriously, that's just beta.

Seriously, that's just the same thing that's happened multiple times after beta patches.

Seriously, that's just to be expected.

I love that people miss the part where the only thing I'm annoyed about is the fact that the achievements got wiped. Literally the only thing, which I said, right here.

Man forum trolls are stupid. Oh well. I'll just lol it off and go do something constructive.

Honestly the game still kinda blows though.

Eh, for all you know they can fix that up if you bring it up in the forums or support page. There's a bigger problem than that when it comes to Diablo 3.

They completely destroyed the UI, stuck you with only 4 spells now that aren't your mouse button skills, removed the need go get runes as they now just learned, removed the need to gather up whites or greys for disenchanting, consolified it to death and pretty much destroyed all the stuff that Diablo 2.

I agree, it's just not really any fun. I certainly won't be buying it.

That is what happens in a beta though. What did you expect them to keep it all? They wiped my platinum rating twice in Starcraft 2 beta because it was in beta. YOu can't complain they aren't gonna let you keep it.

Absolutely! I have around 50 hours in the original Torchlight, so I assume I'll probably get even more out of 2.

I was sort of hoping the announcement of D3's release would spur Runic into action (IE, naming a definitive release date) but that doesn't appear to be the case.

There are people in this world who believe that the measure of their own worth is based entirely on their gamerscore or achievements.

When you take that away from them, they lash out unpredictably.

It's quite amusing.

I like how half the people in this thread just decided to talk about how much they aren't interested in playing Diablo 3 when that isn't even what this thread is about. Way to go guys!

OT: They've been doing character wipes nearly every patch in beta, and it hasn't been a secretive thing. The point of beta is to test specific features, not act as a demo. I strongly imagine they've had a good reason for wiping all the characters on most patches, which I'd likely imagine has more to do with that the way they store characters and account information becomes incompatible with the previous way. It's also very possible that they just want to encourage you to go ahead and do all the stuff again, so that it can be tested properly, and leaving you with twinked out level 13 characters does not encourage that.

To clarify: once the game goes live, there will never be a character or account wipe, just like there has never been such a thing in WoW or any respectable online RPG.
